  • Patent number: 6920184
Abstract: The transmission system according to the invention comprises a transmitter (10) and a receiver (1 2). The transmitter (10) can transmit datawords via a multicarrier signal (11) to the receiver (12). In order to reduce the crest factor of this multicarrier signal (11) the transmitter (10) comprises a generator (20) and a selector (22). The generator (20) generates for each dataword (19) a number of alternative sequences (21) by combining mutually different digital words with the dataword (19). For this purpose, the generator (20) include an augmentor (40) and a scrambler (42). The augmentor (40) generates for each dataword (19) a number of intermediate sequences (41) by combining the digital words with the dataword (19). These intermediate sequences (41) are scrambled by the scrambler (42) in order to form the alternative sequences (21). From these alternative sequences (21) the alternative sequence with the lowest peak power value (23) is selected for transmission to the receiver (12).

  • Patent number: 6640615
Abstract: A sealed package's transmission of oxygen, water vapor, carbon dioxide, or other gas or vapor that is of interest because of its potential adverse effects on the package contents is determined indirectly, based upon the package's transmission of a different gas selected as a test gas. Helium is preferred as a test gas. The package's total transmission of the test gas is separated into its components of leakage through the package seals and permeation through the packaging material itself. The package's leakage of the gas of interest is determined based on its leakage of the test gas, in accordance with the molecular weights of the gases.

  • Patent number: 6070233
Abstract: A small first level cache and large second level cache support a central processor in accessing necessary data for processing. The second level cache holds tag address words each having two status bits V and R. The V bit indicates validity/invalidity status while the R bit informs the second level cache of the validity/invalidity status of the corresponding address in the first level cache. As a result of the status information between the two caches, the spy-snoop operation and invalidation operation cycles are minimized as to the use required of the processor bus, enabling higher efficiency processor operations.

  • Patent number: 5980091
Abstract: An integrated circuit chip is fabricated as several circuit modules that are synchronized with a clock signal, by the following steps. Initially, a hardware description language is used to describe a functional behavior for a first module on the chip which generates an intermodule signal, and describe a functional behavior for a second module on the chip which processes the intermodule signal. Thereafter, a slow circuit embodiment of the first module is synthesized with port timing constraints which permit the intermodule signal to be generated in twice the cycle time T.sub.CY of the clock signal, and a slow circuit embodiment of the second module is synthesized with port timing constraints which permit the intermodule signal to be processed in twice the cycle time of the clock. Then, a timing analysis program is run on the slow circuit embodiment of the first and second modules to thereby obtain a first delay .DELTA..sub.1 in which the intermodule signal is actually generated, and obtain a second delay .

  • Patent number: 5937108
Abstract: An input image is comprised of an array of pixels in rows and columns. To generate a scaled replica of the input image, that input image is first partitioned into several identical sections, in which each section has P.sub.R pixels per row and P.sub.C pixels per column. Then the number of pixels-per-row P.sub.R ' and the number of pixels-per-column P.sub.C ' that are to be in each corresponding section of the scaled replica is selected, where P.sub.R ' and P.sub.C ' are any positive integers which can be larger or smaller than P.sub.R and P.sub.C. Then just a single section of the input image is distorted such that the spacing between columns is (P.sub.R '-1)x and the spacing between rows is (P.sub.C '-1)y, where x and y are arbitrary units of distance, such as one inch or one meter. Then the single distorted section of the input image is overlaid with a section of a new row-column array, where the spacing between columns is (P.sub.R -1)x and the spacing between rows is (P.sub.

  • Patent number: 5920892
Abstract: A two domain digital network with each domain having its own system bus and its own bus exchange module permits Write operation addresses to be passed between domains. Each bus exchange module provides a match filter which prevents the passage from one bus to the other bus of a duplicate Write operation (OP) address which has already been transferred, thus relieving the busses of excess traffic when a duplicate Write OP address is being sent to a cache memory for an invalidation operation. A Read operation will nullify the match filter to then allow passage of each incoming Write OP invalidation address to the snoop invalidation queue, but prevent the passage of a subsequent duplicate Write OP address, so long as the read OP is ongoing.

  • Patent number: 5911776
Abstract: A network providing a server using an object-database enables an author to create and store an original document, as a source file with a first format. Software in the data base will provide multiple sets of shadow file-converter groups connected to the source file of the original document. Each shadow file-converter set enables the transformation of the original source file format into a particular other specific type of format. Any client or user of the network can access and receive a copy of the original source document which is automatically reformatted to match the requirements of the receiver's appliance. Thus, one original source document can be created and then published in any specific format to multiple numbers of and type of receiving appliances.
