Abstract: This invention produces methyl esters and ethylene glycol esters by reacting carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a homogeneous liquid phase mixture containing a ruthenium carbonyl complex catalyst and an acyl compound. Methyl ester and ethylene glycol ester are the predominant products. These esters are used as precursors in the formation of ethylene glycol, vinyl acylates such as vinyl acetate, ethylene oxide, ethylene carbonate and methanol.
Abstract: In processes for the hydrolysis of alkylene oxide to form alkylene glycols in the presence of selectivity-enhancing organometalate wherein the organometalate is provided in a water-insoluble phase, a stabilizing material is used to enhance the stability of the organometalate. The stabilizing material is water-soluble and comprises a cation and a selectivity-enhancing metalate anion.
Abstract: Alkylene oxides are hydrolyzed in a reaction menstruum containing an aqueous phase, a water-immiscible liquid phase, and a selectivity-enhancing, dissociatable metalate anion-containing material. The concentration of the metalate anion-containing material is greater in the water-immiscible liquid phase than that in the aqueous phase. The water-immiscible liquid phase can be separated from the aqueous phase to recover metalate anion-containing material.

Abstract: There is disclosed thickened, low shrinkage polyester molding compositions having improved pigmentation. The improved pigmentation in thickenable polyester molding compositions containing a carboxylated vinyl ester polymer low profile additive is achieved either by incorporating a surfactant in the composition, by using as the low profile additive a vinyl acetate/maleic acid copolymer, or by a combination of the two methods.

Abstract: Described herein is a process for the polymerization of a reactive monomer derived from the reaction product of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate and a lactone with other ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The resulting polymeric compositions can be made into high quality industrial finishes by incorporation of various conventional crosslinking agents, plus other normally used formulating ingredients.

Abstract: This invention is directed to curable molding compositions containing a mixture of a poly(acrylate), a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer which serves to crosslink the poly(acrylate) to a thermoset product, unsubstituted or substituted meta- and/or para-divinylbenzene and a thermoplastic polymer low profile additive. The curable molding compositions exhibit improved shrink control during the curing reaction. This invention is also directed to fiber reinforced thermoset resin articles which exhibit generally improved surface appearance quality and can be produced by a rapid injection molding process from the curable molding compositions.
