    Abstract: Apparatus for applying tax stamps to individual cigarette packages of different cigarette cartons, having different height dimensions, comprises a cigarette carton height determination station, a cigarette carton opening station, a cigarette package tax stamp application station, a cigarette carton closing station, and a cigarette carton exit station. Each particular cigarette carton has its height dimension determined at the first cigarette carton height determination station, and the height dimension data is transmitted to a programmable logic controller (PLC). The programmable logic controller (PLC) automatically adjusts mechanisms located at the various stations in accordance with the height dimension data characteristic of each cigarette carton.

    Abstract: A new and improved external corner protector is fabricated from predetermined materials and comprises a vertex portion, and a pair of leg members which diverge outwardly at a predetermined included angle with respect to each other from the vertex portion. The vertex portion and distal end portions of the leg members have relatively enlarged cross-sectional dimensions relative to the cross-sectional dimensions comprising those portions of the leg members which integrally interconnect the distal end portions of the leg members to the vertex portion, wherein the relatively enlarged cross-sectional dimensions serve to reinforce the vertex portion and to dispose only such relatively enlarged distal end portions of the leg members into contact with the external side wall members of the palletized load which define the external corner region being protected.

    Abstract: A new and improved method for calibrating workpiece clamping mechanisms such that once a particular clamping mechanism is calibrated with respect to a particular workpiece to be clamped upon a support surface, the clamping mechanism will always clamp the workpiece with a predetermined, precisely repeatable clamping force. In addition, the method of the present invention may be utilized in conjunction with the calibration of a plurality of clamping mechanisms so as to enable the plurality of clamping mechanisms to always generate the same precise clamping force whereby the multiple clamping mechanisms, utilized to clamp a single workpiece upon a support surface, can in fact clamp different regions of the single workpiece with precisely the same predetermined clamping force such that all regions of the single workpiece are in fact securely clamped.

    Abstract: A disposable dryer cartridge for an air/gas dryer apparatus for installation in an air/gas line delivering compressed air or gas to an air/gas-driven tool. The cartridge includes a flexible elongated casing having a drying composition therein. The casing has an air/gas inlet and an air/gas outlet thereon. A handle is also provided on the casing. The casing is self-configurable into a cross-sectionally contracted configuration when lifted by the handle to facilitate insertion in or removal from an air/gas dryer apparatus. Following insertion of the casing in an air/gas dryer, it is manipulated as necessary to reconfigure the casing from the contracted configuration to an operational configuration wherein the casing is not cross-sectionally contracted and wherein the drying composition is compacted. When the casing needs replacement, it can be grasped by the handle and lifted to re-effect the contracted configuration and thereby removed from the dryer.

    Abstract: A new and improved fastening system for attaching relatively thin-gauge sheet metal members, such as, for example 14-25 gauge sheet metal members, wherein the power output parameters of the power tool are controlled such that when the driver blade member of the power tool acts upon each one of the brad-type nail fasteners, the brad-type nail fasteners will attain a predetermined velocity value, such as, for example, within the velocity range of 1000-2500 in/sec. Any one of various different types of power tools may be employed, and in addition, various geometrical characteristics of each brad-type fastener are important, such as, for example, the tip geometry, the aspect ratio A/R of the shank member of the fastener, and the use of an adhesive or painted coating upon the external surface areas of the shank member of the fastener. The fasteners preferably comprise dual-width fasteners which exhibit enhanced pull-out resistance values.

    Abstract: An aircraft vertical fin-fuselage structural integration system wherein a plurality of vertical tail fin spars, extending transversely across the fin and fuselage and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fin, are integrally connected directly to the fuselage pressure bulkhead so as to directly transmit or transfer the vertical fin and horizontal stabilizer empennage loads to the fuselage structural network. The system can be adapted to any type of aircraft, and in the case of an aircraft of the BOEING 727 class, the spars accommodate the air intake S-duct operatively associated with the craft's rear engine housed within the rearwardmost portion of the fuselage. The spars also have their lateral configurations fabricated so as to match the fuselage loft lines.

    Abstract: An integrated power plant installation system for underwing high-bypass mid-length fan air duct core-mounted engines readily permits disconnection of the entire powerplant at the wing thereby virtually eliminating the necessity of disconnecting the engine and complex systems per se from the support strut when engine replacement or removal proves necessary. Excessive congestion within the vicinity of the strut box structure is eliminated by disposing the engine accessories, and auxiliary equipment and system lines, within the lower quadrant of the powerplant assembly in both a laterally and longitudinally distributed array. Potential catastrophic fire hazards within the nacelle are substantially eliminated by routing the fluid lines and electrical conduits axially aft and upwardly around the circumference of the engine within the nozzle section of the powerplant aft of all rotating discs.

    Abstract: A seat structure includes a flexible canvas seat bottom portion (14) and a flexible canvas seat back portion (12). A horizontally disposed, transversely extending beam member (58) is rotatably disposed above the seat bottom portion (14) and is operatively connected to the lower end of the seat back portion (12). The beam member (58) is movable between two positions 90.degree. apart such that when the beam member (58) is disposed in its first position, the beam member (58) effectively defines a support shelf or platform projecting forwardly of the seat back portion (12) and is therefore capable of supporting parachute packs borne by parachuting personnel seated within the seat structure. The seat back portion (12) is also disposed in a slackened state at such time so as to accommodate the depth of the parachute packs.

    Abstract: An improved peristaltic pump includes a pivotably mounted pressure plate which, together with the pump roller elements, defines the pump chamber. The pivotal mounting of the pressure plate facilitates accessibility to the pump chamber in order to simplify the pump tube loading and unloading procedures. The mounting system for the pressure plate includes a mechanically-advantaged four-bar linkage arrangement which automatically retains the pressure plate in either its fully open or fully closed position as a result of an over-center type locking construction. The pump also includes a mechanism for adjusting the volume flow rate characteristic of a pump tube. This is particularly adaptable for a dual-tube system wherein a predetermined volume flow rate ratio is to be achieved.
