  • Patent number: 8282461
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for presenting payouts in primary and/or secondary gaming activities. A plurality of concentric wheels, rings, or other shapes are provided, where each includes a plurality of different symbols, numbers, or other indicia that can be used as a part of a collective payout award. The wheels, rings, or shapes are rotated, and at least one segment designator is provided to demarcate segments of each wheel, ring, or shape as an active segment when the wheels, rings, or shapes stop spinning. The payout amount is based on the aggregate of the symbols, numbers, and/or other indicia presented via the segment designator(s) when the spinning wheels, rings, or shapes have come to rest. In an alternate embodiment, the segment designators are rotated, and demarcate segments of each wheel, ring, or shape as an active segment when the segment designators stop spinning.

  • Patent number: 8249865
Abstract: In one example, a mobile device encodes a digital bitstream using a particular set of modulation parameters to generate an audio signal that has different audio tones selected to pass through a vocoder of the mobile device. The particular set of modulation parameters is optimized for a subset of a plurality of vocoding modes without a priori knowledge of which one of the vocoding modes is currently operated by the vocoder. The mobile device conducts transmissions over the wireless telecommunications network through the vocoder using the particular set of modulation parameters, and monitors these transmissions for errors. If the errors reach a threshold, then the vocoder may be using one of the vocoding modes that are not included in the subset for which the particular set of modulation parameters is optimized, and accordingly, the modulation device switches from the particular set of modulation parameters to a different set of modulation parameters.

  • Patent number: 8077360
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a method for automatically identifying a scan area by a scanner is disclosed. The method comprises steps of scanning an original comprising an object, identifying the original to establish a location and a profile of the object in the original, displaying a preview window corresponding to the original, wherein a location and a profile of a confined area is exactly the location and the profile of the object, receiving a framed area selected from the preview window by user, wherein a portion of the framed area beyond the confined area is automatically removed to generate a scan area, and scanning the scan area. The present invention can also extend to a method for selecting a scan area by a user and a scanner with a feature of automatically identifying a scan area.

  • Patent number: 8068217
Abstract: An apparatus with a combination of a point light source and a single lens is provided. The present apparatus includes a point light source, a photodetector and a lens. The lens is placed in the same side of the point light source and the photodetector in order that the light emitting from the point light source is focused onto a target area of an object through the lens. The reflected light from the target area is focused onto the photodetector through the lens. The present apparatus can qualitatively and quantitatively monitor a content of a specific component of a tested solution. The geometric relationship of the point light source, the photodetector and the single lens can improve a measuring resolution of the present apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8064108
Abstract: A full-zone optical image addressing apparatus, including an addressing device, an image extraction converter, a comparator, an AND gate and a counter. The addressing device is located at the enclosure of the scanner and includes a plurality of geometric patterns. Each of the geometric patterns includes a plurality of rows of pixels. While receiving an exposure signal, the image extraction converter extracts one row of pixels from the addressing device, such that a series of analog signals is obtained and output to the comparator. The comparator then compares the series of analog signals to an analog critical voltage to output a series of analog comparison signals to the AND gate. The AND gate synchronously processes the series of analog comparison signals and a pixel rate clock to output the pixel data corresponding to the extracted row of pixels to the counter.

  • Patent number: 7853614
Abstract: A reputability analysis system receives a domain assessment request associated with a domain and accesses a database to find a match for the domain. A reputability score is derived according to a hierarchical analysis of a matching domain in the database. Traceability, accountability, and association information associated with the domain assessment request may also be used to adjust the reputability score.
