  • Patent number: 4308301
Abstract: A process for metal-coating plastic surfaces by chemical pretreatment with n acid pickling agent whereby to prepare the plastic surfaces for the subsequent superposition thereon of a metal layer is described. The plastic surfaces to be coated are chemically pretreated by means of an acid pickling agent in the gaseous phase, the chemical pretreatment is then terminated by chemical reaction of the said pickling agent with another material in the gaseous phase to form gaseous reaction products. If desired, the chemically pretreated plastic surface may then be treated with an aldehyde in solution. The treated surface may then be metal coated, if desired employing a galvanic process without external current.

  • Patent number: 4301576
Abstract: A tongue and buckle fastener for a safety belt harness has a tongue 1 with a radiused head portion 3 shaped to mate with a recess 8 in an ejector 17. A latch plate 20 moves at right angles to the direction of insertion of the tongue 1 to engage behind the head portion 3 of the tongue 1. When the tongue 1 has been ejected, the latch plate 20 engages in a groove 28 in one side face of the ejector 17 and overhangs the recess 18 in the ejector 17. When the tongue 1 is inserted, it engages corners 29a and 29b on the latch plate 20 which overhang the recess 18 so as to lift the latch plate 20 out of the groove 28. If a member of any other shape than the tongue 1 is inserted, it cannot engage with both corners 29a and 29 b simultaneously. Consequently only one side of the latch plate 20 is lifted and the ejector continues to block further insertion of such a member.

  • Patent number: 4298014
Abstract: A hair processing shield to assist tinting, coloring and bleaching comprises a cylinder or tube of a clear polyolefin film. The tube is sized to fit over the head and cover the hair. The tube has longitudinal lines of perforations that are torn apart to form tabs. The tabs are then folded down to form pockets around portions of the hair pulled through the film and treated with a hair treating solution. This shield and hair treating procedure permits the hairdresser to segregate strands of hair for treatment, protects the head of the client and prevents drying or loss of the treating solution.

  • Patent number: 4288303
Abstract: An electrochemical processing system is provided. The system comprises an electrochemical cell having a first compartment adapted to contain a first solution, a first counter electrode and a first reference electrode in contact with the first solution, a second compartment adapted to contain a second solution, a second counter electrode and a second reference electrode in contact with the second solution, and a porous bi-polar barrier electrode separating the first and second compartments. The barrier electrode voltage is fixed at ground. By fixing the potential on the first compartment side of the porous barrier electrode at a first potential verses the first reference electrode while the potential on the second compartment side of the porous barrier electrode is maintained at a second (different) potential verses the second reference electrode, the porous barrier electrode can be used as a gate for specific electroactive species.

  • Patent number: 4269870
Abstract: Electrical and electronic components loosely mounted in a circuit board with their leads extending through holes in the board are temporarily stabilized in position in the board by treating the board and component leads at least in part with a selected material in liquid state, and hardening the material to form a solid, solder-compatible, non-metallic cement having a melting point below that of solder, coupling the board and leads to one another. The component leads may then be trimmed to finish length, and the components soldered in place. Alternatively the board may be placed in storage for future soldering. The cement is melted and displaced simultaneously with soldering. Preferred as cement are naturally occurring and synthetic waxes having a melting point in the range of about 120.degree.195.degree. • Patent number: 4267817
Abstract: A wood stove is of all welded steel plate construction except for the door which is of heavy cast iron. When the door is closed, the only source of combustion air is through an adjustable air inlet on the face of the door. The door is hollow and serves to preheat the incoming air. The inner wall of the door divides the incoming air into lower and upper, primary and secondary, respectively, combustion air flows. The stove has an internal upper baffle running from rear to front which helps to promote air flow and combustion efficiency and to knock out entrained matter from the products of combustion. The flue connection is in the rear of the stove above the baffle and is stepped into the back of the stove to allow the stove to be fitted against a wall.
