Patent number: 6855523Abstract: An improved method allowing for rapid sensitive and standardized detection of a target nucleic acid from a pathogenic microorganism or virus or normal or abnormal gene in a sample is provided. The method involves hybridizing a target nucleic acid to several non-overlapping oligonucleotide probes that hybridize to adjacent regions in the target nucleic acid, the probes being referred to capture/amplification probes and amplification probes, respectively, in the presence of paramagnetic beads coated with a ligand binding moiety. Through the binding of a ligand attached to one end of the capture/amplification probe and the specific hybridization of portions of the probes to adjacent sequences in the target nucleic acid, a complex comprising the target nucleic acid, the probes and the paramagnetic beads is formed. The probes may then ligated together to form a contiguous ligated amplification sequence bound to the beads, which complex may be denatured to remove the target nucleic acid and unligated probes.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2002Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York UniversityInventors: David Y. Patent number: 6535226Abstract: A telepresence method and system for providing users the ability to navigate through an array of cameras capturing an environment. The array of cameras includes one or more series of cameras, wherein each series of cameras defines a path through the environment and wherein the cameras in each series have a progressively different perspective of the environment. Users interactively navigate through series of cameras, thereby simulating movement along paths.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1999Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Kewazinga Corp.Inventors: Scott Sorokin, David C. Patent number: 6464366Abstract: An illumination device using an innovative design to provide a uniform, highly concentrated and substantially longitudinal illumination. The device includes, a compound light guide and a light-extracting section with a built-in light-extracting feature. The compound light guide comprises two optically coupled sub-guides. A first sub-guide has a constant cross-section area with a profile optimized for an integral light-concentrating optics, and a second sub-guide has a varying cross-section area for controlling local light flux density inside the light guide and providing assembly means. A light-homogenizing section provided at an input of the light guide improves illumination uniformity at an area close to a light input end of the light guide without displacing a light source from the central normal line of a light-extracting feature.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Bright View Electronics Co., LTDInventors: Carin Lin, Jung-Su Tsao
