Abstract: A crossover duct assembly for providing flow communication between multiple stages of centrifugal compressors and the like. The duct assembly includes inner and outer wall sections forming a continuous annular flow path between compressor stages for turning radially outward gas flow to a radially inward direction. The duct includes a thin vane diffuser section, a vaneless turning bend having an elongated wall geometry, and a deswirl vane section for enhancing smooth gas flow with minimum pressure loss.

Abstract: A pump for pumping a fluid such as a fuel having poor lubricating qualities, comprising a matched set of pumping gears carried on rotatable shafts, with said shafts mounted for rotation within matched sets of floating bushings.
Abstract: A combustor system for use with a turbocharged combustion engine comprises a combustor connected for continuous passage of engine exhaust gases. The combustor includes an integrated fuel control and purge system for supplying fuel to the combustor in response to engine operating conditions, and for purging fuel from the system when the combustor is shut down.
Abstract: A fuel control system has a boost pump for pumping liquid fuel to a positive displacement pump, which in turn meters the fuel to a fuel nozzle of a combustion engine. The positive displacement pump is variably driven independently of the boost pump, and includes a pressure regulator for minimizing pressure difference across the pump.
Abstract: A permanent magnet coupling having opposed magnetic coupling members, and including process fluid bearings and dual flow paths for process fluid providing temperature control.
Abstract: A fluid pumping system comprises a fluid pump having multiple fluid outlet flows coupled to relatively low and high pressure loads. A control valve system controls the pressure levels of the low and high pressure flows, and relieves excess fluid from the high pressure flow to the low pressure flow to augment the low pressure flow.

Abstract: A bearing assembly for a rotating shaft comprising a spring-biased retainer for closely controlling axial and rotational freedom of a sleeve bearing.
Abstract: An energy transfer machine including a stator ring carried in a casing forming a toroidal fluid path between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. A rotor has a blade cascade coacting with fluid in the path to transfer energy therebetween. Apparatus and methods are disclosed for controllably unloading the energy exchange between the rotor and the fluid.

Abstract: A seal system for sealing passage of a rotatable shaft through a wall separating adjacent regions subject to differential fluid pressures. The system comprises a flange on the wall circumferentially spaced from the shaft. A ring rotatable with the shaft includes an axially extending enlargement concentrically about the flange in engagement with the wall for slinging fluid away from the wall opening. A drain gutter radially outwardly from the enlargement collects fluid draining down the wall, and guides the same away from above the wall opening.
Abstract: A turbocharger having an exhaust gas driven turbine for driving a compressor which supplies high pressure charge air to an internal combustion engine. A turbine wheel rotates within a turbine housing having a gas inlet and a gas outlet for circulation of exhaust gases to drive the turbine. The exhaust gases exit through a gas discharge housing mounted on the turbine housing and including a bypass chamber communicating with the gas inlet. A turbine bypass valve on the discharge housing is controllably actuated to seat on the turbine housing to close the bypass chamber.
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is disclosed in which water is used to cool the turbine. The water is turned to steam in the hot turbine; is super-heated, and then injected into the combustor to aid in the gasification of the fuel, to reduce the flame temperature and improve emissions, as well as increasing the specific output of the engine.
Abstract: Primary air to the fuel-air mixing chamber of a gas turbine engine is cooled to reduce generation of nitrous oxides. A porous disc separates the fuel-air mixture chamber from the combustion chamber and serves to uniformly mix the fuel and air to reduce the reaction temperature. A catalyst is sprayed on the disc surface in the combustion chamber to speed combustion. A heater embedded in the disc heats the disc and prevents excessive generation of nitrous oxides during the engine start-up. A metering valve can be used to regulate the temperature of the primary air by supplying heated secondary air to the primary air.
Abstract: A turbocharger for use with an internal combustion engine is disclosed which provides regulation of gas supply to the turbine by means of an integral regulator controlled by fluid pressure.
