Abstract: An electronic control apparatus is provided in which a supervisory control circuit part capable of mutual communication with a main control circuit part, which is operated by a high speed clock signal of high precision, is operated by a medium speed clock signal, which is low in cost and precision, such that they can operate mutually independently of each other. The main control circuit part supplies a medium speed communication synchronization signal frequency divided to the supervisory control circuit part. The supervisory control circuit part is operated by the medium speed clock signal to supervise the control operation of the main control circuit part. An error measuring circuit calculates an error correction coefficient which is the ratio of the signal cycle of the communication synchronization signal to that of the medium speed clock signal. The value of the error correction coefficient is reversely supervised by the main control circuit part.

Abstract: A telephone access (3) includes a signaling channel (5). A substitute channel (9) or substitute channels (8) can be added to the signaling channel and used when the signaling channel is down. It is shown that this makes the telephone access more suitable for a separate signaling channel access or hybrid access configuration.
Abstract: A method for recovering valuable metals, which include at least one M element selected from the group consisting of Mo, Ni and Co, and V, in the form of iron-based alloys from a waste containing the valuable metals, comprising the steps of (a) roasting the waste to form a roasted ore containing oxides of the valuable metals; (b-1) heating the roasted ore together with an iron source and a flux, to form an iron-based alloy melt; (b-2) adding a reducing agent having higher affinity for oxygen than V at a reduction temperature to the melt, thereby reducing the oxides of the valuable metals to form an Fe-M-V alloy melt; (c) oxidizing substantially only V in the Fe-M-V alloy melt to form a V-oxide-containing slag and an Fe-M alloy melt; and (d) separating the V-oxide-containing slag from the Fe-M alloy melt.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling are disclosed. The apparatus applies tests to microscope slides, where the slides are loaded in trays. Each tray is treated as a batch, and batches may be interleaved to reduce the total running time of testing all slides in up to three batches. The batches of slides have protocols that define the application of reagents such as primary antibodies. The protocols define open times, where no common resources are used, and use times, where common resources are used. The scheduler operates to ensure that the use times between batches does not overlap, without leaving the next step in the protocol for an excessive period of time.

Abstract: A method an apparatus for identifying slides is disclosed, where samples such as tissue sample mounted to slides are labeled with information, and an image of the information is captured by a processing instrument. The image is analyzed, for example using optical character recognition, and information extracted from the image is used to determine the test to be applied to the slide by the processing instrument. Where information about the slide cannot be extracted from the image, the image is presented to a user to that the slide information, such as its identity or the test to be applied, may be selected by the user to allow the slide to be processed.
