    Abstract: The liquid testing apparatus comprises a housing incorporating a device for measuring the refractive index and a device for measuring the sonic velocity of the liquid under test. The housing comprises a chamber into which a prism protrudes and approximately collimated light is transmitted through the prism. By measuring the amount of totally internally refracted light, the refractive index of the liquid in the chamber is determined. A further chamber is provided in the housing and a sonic pulse transducer is disposed at one end of the further chamber which also receives the reflected pulse from the other end of the further chamber. A temperature sensor is also provided. The apparatus provides one or more signals to display the quality of the liquid and/or to provide a control of the liquid flow or of a device using the liquid. The apparatus may form part of a container drain plug and incorporate a drain valve.

    Abstract: A liquid colorant for ABS resins is described, comprising 100 parts by weight of a pigment or dye and 25 to 2,000 parts by weight of a liquid polyester, and having a viscosity of 1,500 poises or less at room temperature. This liquid polyester is prepared mainly from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a dihydric alcohol, and usually has a viscosity of 10 to 1,500 poises at room temperture. The liquid colorant has advantages such as (1) the dispersibility of the pigment is good, (2) the colorant can be weighed precisely, (3) the colorant does not deteriorate the appearence of the molded article, and (4) the colorant does not deteriorate the physical properties of the molded article.

    Abstract: An electro-chemical sensor for the measurement of concentrations of gas or vapour in accordance with the limiting current principle comprises an electrolytic cell 1 having a sensing electrode 9, a counter electrode 2, an intervening body of electrolyte 4 and a restriction to the rate of access of gas or vapor to the sensing electrode in the form of a porous diffusion barrier 13. The improvement resides in the feature that substantially all the active pores of the diffusion barrier are sufficiently small as to cause diffusion through them to be in accordance with the Knudsen principle, i.e. the diffusion mechanism is effectively determined solely by collisons between the diffusion molecules and the walls of the pores. The barrier is constituted by a body of porous PTFE which may be in the form of a piece of unsintered PTFE tape or compressed PTFE powder formed by drying a dispersion of PTFE in water.

The rotary cylinder is mounted within a stationary cylinder with ball bearings being provided therebetween.
