Abstract: A mobile communication system has a plurality of mobile stations and a base station which includes a plurality of antennas, a frequency shift portion, a combining portion, a receiving portion and a signal processing portion. The antenna receives radio waves transmitted by the mobile stations. The frequency shift portion shifts the received signal with a frequency corresponding to each of the antennas. The combining portion determines the shifted signal as a combining signal. The receiving portion converts the combining signal in frequency to make an intermediate frequency signal, and converts the intermediate frequency signal into a digital signal. The signal processing portion includes spreading demodulation means judging means, and fading compensation means.
Abstract: A transparent synthetic resin laminate with photochromism property consisting essentially of two transparent synthetic resin layers and a photochromic layer formed by curing a mixture of a two liquid polyurethane of a polyurethane prepolymer and a curing agent and a photochromic organic compound which is interposed between said two transparent synthetic resin layers.
Abstract: The image display device includes a liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal panel and a backlight and a backlight controller for allowing the backlight of the liquid crystal display device to be bright when environment light is bright and allowing the backlight to be dark when the environment light is dark such that light leak (minimum luminance) which is defined by an extinction ratio of liquid crystal will not grow more than a specified degree. The image display device enables displayed images to be really discernible regardless of brightness of environment light (surrounding light).
Abstract: A drop-on-demand ink-jet printing head provided with an array of a plurality of piezoelectric elements arranged at regular intervals and fixed at their one ends to a base, the other ends of the respective piezoelectric elements being free ends which are disposed in opposition to nozzle respective apertures, the piezoelectric elements being formed by cutting, at predetermined width, a piezoelectric plate obtained by firing a lamination of paste-like piezoelectric material conductive material stacked alternately in layers. Since each piezoelectric element is composed of a thin piezoelectric plate interposed between electrodes, if a voltage of only about 30 V, which is sufficient to drive the thin piezoelectric plate, is applied across the electrodes, it is possible to largely flex the whole of the piezoelectric element. By this transformation, ink between the top end of the piezoelectric element and the nozzle aperture is discharged to the outside as an ink drop.
Abstract: A cooling system and a semiconductor apparatus, in which the cooling system may supply a reaction chamber with a coolant (such as helium or a mixture containing helium) during a semiconductor wafer fabrication process. The cooling system may generally include a printed circuit board, a coolant flow controller having a setpoint control to set a flow of coolant by transmitting a voltage signal to the printed circuit board, and a filter for removing undesired noise from the voltage signal to stabilize the flow of coolant.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a dense wavelength division multiplexing system which uses an automatic level control feedback circuit or loop (100) to maintain one of a plurality of selectable output power levels. In addition, to prevent the sidelobes of the individual channels from interfering with one another when power to the channel is increased, an optical bandpass filter (5) is placed in the optical feedback path of the ALC loop (100). Furthermore, if the frequency or wavelength drifts from the desired output wavelength, the output wavelength is tuned by cooling or heating the laser using a thermoelectric cooler (55) which is part of a thermoelectric cooler loop (110) that uses a calibration table to adjust for temperature/wavelength errors.
Abstract: A rubber-steel cord composite comprising a steel cord having, in a planar image of the steel cord formed by X-rays passing through the steel cord, a fraction R of the total area occupied by filaments of from 0.45 or more to 0.95 or less in an arbitrarily selected portion of the steel cord having a length of 15 mm in an axial direction of the cord, is provided. The length of 15 mm in an axial direction of the cord means a length of 15 mm in an axial direction of an actual cord and the fraction R of the total area occupied by the filaments is expressed as R=F/A, wherein A represents the total area of the cord and F represents the area of the cord occupied by the filaments.
An object of the present invention is to provide a pneumatic tire for passenger cars that shows no separation of the interface of adhesion during use, particularly during use in the run-flat condition, and exhibits excellent durability.
Abstract: A sensor enables simultaneous or sequential eddy current and optical reflectance measurements of conducting film by providing an eddy current inspection coil and a first and a second optical fiber extending axially through the coil. The eddy current inspection coil is excited by a radio frequency generator and induces eddy currents in the conducting film which are sensed using a detector. The conducting film is illuminated by a first optical fiber, and light which is reflected from the conducting film is transmitted by a second optical fiber to a detector. In the case of opaque conducting films, the eddy current sensor measures sheet resistance which is determinative of film thickness. In opaque conducting films, optical reflectance measurements are indicative of characteristics such as grain size and surface oxidation. Eddy current sensing is indicative of sheet resistance which correlates to grain size and film thickness.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in conjunction with a plasma reaction chamber provide both throttling functionality and independent vacuum isolation for a turbomolecular pump. A throttle valve provides for precise reaction chamber pressure regulation, and a gate valve prevents extended exposure of the turbomolecular pump to atmospheric conditions during cleaning or other maintenance operations. The throttle valve and the gate valve may be actuated independently.

Abstract: An apparatus for examining a specimen with a beam of charged particles, where charging of the specimen is avoided or reduced by injecting inert gas onto the sample's surface. In order to avoid interactions with the electron optics, various embodiments are disclosed for providing a rotationally symmetrical nozzles and/or electrodes. Additionally, embodiments are disclosed wherein a plurality of gas conduits are arranged in a rotationally symmetrical manner. Alternatively, the conduit is incorporated into an element of the electron optics, such as the magnetic lens. Also, in order to reduce or eliminate interaction of the electrons with the gas molecules, embodiments are disclosed wherein the gas is pulsated, rather than continually injected.
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for a computer-implemented apportioning system. Work is distributed to processors in a multi-processor system. Initially, during bind-time, a scaling factor is determined for each processor. The scaling factor represents relative processing power in relation to each other processor. Then, portions of a total amount of work are distributed to each processor based on the determined scaling factor of that processor and a determined amount of work for an average processor.

Abstract: An electromagnetic wave radar device mounted on a car, which helps improve external appearance of a car without impairing radar function, and is fabricated using a decreased number of parts at a reduced cost. The electromagnetic wave radar device comprises an electromagnetic wave radar body 1 mounted on a car 2 and for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves of a predetermined frequency, and a radome portion made of a material which permits the electromagnetic waves to transmit through and covers the electromagnetic radar body, the electromagnetic wave radar body being disposed on the side of the back surface 30A of the bumper 30 of the car, and the radome portion being formed by a portion of the bumper of the car.
Abstract: A two dimensional sensor array is used to collect light diffracted from the inspected substrate. The signal generated by each individual sensor is passed through a threshold. Those signals which are below the threshold are amplified and are summed up. The summed signal is then passed through a second threshold. Summed signals which pass the second threshold are flagged as indicating suspect locations on the substrate. In the preferred embodiment, the entire circuitry is provided in the form of a CMOS camera which is placed in the Fourier plane of the diffracted light.
Abstract: Computer for a bicycle includes a speed change with a chain transmission, including a plurality of front crown wheels (16) which can be driven in rotation by a pair of pedal cranks (18) and a plurality of rear sprockets (20), a first sensor (30) for providing an electric signal indicating the speed of rotation of one wheel of the bicycle, a second sensor (32) for providing an electric signal indicating the speed of rotation of the pedal cranks (18), and a third sensor (38) for providing an electric signal indicating which is the selected front crown wheel. The computer has a display (24) for displaying riding information of the bicycle, and an electronic control programmed so as to determine the number of teeth (Zp) of the selected rear sprocket as a function of said signals and as a function of stored data indicating the number of teeth (Zc) of the front crown wheels (16).
Abstract: A device for application to a body part of a patient to determine the physiological condition of the patient. The device includes a housing, in the form of a hollow socket closed at its distal end and open at its proximal end, for receiving the body part, a pressurizing device for applying a pressure field around the body part when received in the housing, and a sensor for sensing changes in the body part related to changes in pulsatile blood volume therein. The housing includes at least three contiguous but separate sections including a distal end section at its distal tip, a proximal end section at its opposite end, and at least one middle section between the end sections. The pressurizing device applies a pressure field to the portions of the body part received within at least the distal end section and the middle section of the housing. The distal end section is configured to apply pressure to all of the distal portion of the body part including its distal most tip.
Abstract: A golf ball has a core and a cover and, the cover includes at least one thin spherical layer with a thickness of not more than 1.5 mm. The thin layer is molded by injecting an injection molding material at a selected fill speed which is correlated to the melt flow rate of the molding material. The invention facilitates the mass production of golf balls having thin spherical cover layers of uniform thickness which offer potential for further improvements in ball performance.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for optical inspection of an article are presented. The apparatus comprises an illumination unit and at least one detection unit. The illumination unit generates an incident beam and directs it onto a predetermined region of the article. The detection unit includes a light collection system and a detector. The light collection system collects light scattered from the illuminated region with a predetermined constant maximum collection angle, and utilizes a variable angle design for selectively selecting from collected light at least one light component propagating with a solid angle segment of the maximum collection angle, and directing it to the detector.

Abstract: A method of reticle inspection, comprising generating a test reticle comprising a plurality of test pattern-features thereon; manufacturing a wafer using the reticle; and determining a transfer of at least one of said plurality of pattern features from said reticle to said wafer. Preferably, a neural network is trained using the determination. Preferably, a reticle is inspected by running detected defects through the neural network to determine if the detected defect has a consequence.
