Abstract: A system for recognizing a continuously spoken word sequence with reference to preselected reference words with the problem of coarticulation removed, comprises a pattern memory for memorizing demi-word pair reference patterns consisting of a former and a latter reference pattern segment for each reference word and a word pair reference pattern segment for each permutation with repetition of two words selected from the preselected reference words. A recognition unit is operable as a finite-state automaton on concatenating the demi-word pair reference patterns so that no contradiction occurs at each interface of the reference patterns in every concatenation. It is possible to use the automaton in restricting the number of reference patterns in each concatenation either to an odd or an even positive integer.
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a source capable of producing an atomic (molecular) beam and at least one electromagnetic resonator of the open type through which the atoms (molecules) pass. Optical pumping means excite the atoms (molecules) of the beam into a selected energy level before the beam passes through the resonator. An electromagnetic field generator is connected to the resonator for generating inside said resonator a spatial distribution of electromagnetic field at a frequency corresponding to the difference between the energies associated to said first level or energetic state and a second level or energetic state of the atoms (molecules) in the beam. Detection means provide an electric signal indicative of the number of atoms (molecules) which inside the resonator undergo a transition to the above mentioned second level or energetic state.
Abstract: A combined oil ring comprising a steel spacer expander and two steel side rails is described, which has excellent wear resistance and can be used in, for example, an internal combustion engine. The spacer expander and the side rail have specific structures procuded by applying a low temperature gas nitriding treatment.
Abstract: A laser recorder device in which many levels of half-tone densities are accurately produced with smooth transitions between areas of different densities. An input signal is sampled with a sampling pulse in response to which digital output values of a predetermined function of the input signal are produced. Pulses are applied to a semiconductor laser beam source with the number and frequency of the pulses during a preset application time being determined in accordance with the magnitude of the input signal.
Abstract: In a process for producing vacuum deposition films which comprises providing a vacuum deposition film composed of an alloy or an intermetallic compound of two or more components having different vapor pressures at a specified temperature on a base, the improvement which comprises charging the component having the lower vapor pressure at said temperature to an evaporation source in a vacuum evaporation chamber in such an amount that the evaporation amount thereof per unit time does not substantially vary, and carrying out vacuum evaporation while continuously feeding a component having a higher vapor pressure at said temperature into said evaporation source in an amount corresponding to the evaporation amount thereof per unit time.
Abstract: A rotary die cutter comprises a rotary soft anvil coacting with a rotary hard anvil mounting one or more cutting rules, or forms. Each cutting rule has within the area defined by the rule a metal or metal-containing pusher adapted to be moved radially outwardly of the rule at a predetermined location by a magnetic source to eject from the rule any cut waste board contained therein.
Abstract: A device for inspecting the external appearance of solid medicine having a solid medicine supplying section, a first drum-shaped conveying section for conveying solid medicines supplied by the solid medicine supplying section, at equal intervals so that one surface of each piece of solid medicine is observed. A second drum-shaped conveying section receives the solid medicine from the first drum-shaped conveying section and conveys the solid medicine at equal intervals so that the opposite surface of each solid medicine is observed. First and second observing units are provided adjacent to said first and second drum-shaped conveying sections for observing both surfaces of each piece of solid medicine respectively. A third observing unit is employed for observing the thickness of each piece of solid medicine conveyed by the first and second drum-shaped conveying sections at least before the piece of solid medicine reaches the second observing unit.

Abstract: A color image forming process which comprises processing a photographic light-sensitive element comprising a support having thereon a layer containing imagewise distributed silver therein with an aqueous alkaline solution containing a stannous ion and in the presence of a dye and a bispyridinium compound represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents a lower aliphatic hydrocarbon group or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are bonded each other to form a ring; n represents 0 or 1; and X.sup.- represents an anion; to bleach the dye in an imagewise manner. By the process of the present invention, color images which are stable to light, heat and moisture are formed using light-sensitive elements containing a reduced amount of silver salt and without using chemicals causing environmental pollution problems for the processing.

Abstract: A multichannel correlation receiver at an earth station is provided for determining the depolarization effects of atmospheric conditions on satellite communications. The receiver provides a first co-polarized signal and a second, relatively weak, cross-polarized signal indicative of the depolarization effects, and uses a phase locked loop demodulator to produce a noise free replica of the relatively strong co-polarized signal. This co-polarized signal is highly correlated with the second cross-polarized signal and is mixed therewith to provide a relatively noise free, narrow band signal which has a level indicative of the cross-polarization signal strength for both up-link and down-link propagation paths. The relative signal strengths are recorded on a digital storage means and provide an accurate measure of the depolarization effects of the existing atmospheric conditions. A programmable local oscillator also provides multiple channel capability.

Abstract: Baked pastry product is obtained with the use of crystalline fructose and consists of a wheat flour-based, cellular matrix which is soft, leavened under baking conditions, and of a moisture content of 17 to 22% by weight. The starting dough is rich in water and contains 50 to 80 parts by weight of starch, 15 to 25 parts by weight of gluten, 40 to 60 parts by weight of powdered, skimmed milk and 50 to 100 parts by weight of egg solids for every 100 parts by weight of flour. A solution of crystalline fructose in water is prepared first in which the egg solids are emulsified, whereupon only addition of flour, starch, gluten and powdered milk is effected.
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for convolutionally encoding a finite length digital data bit stream, the information samples arriving at the output of each encoder shift register are fed back to its input to simulate an infinite periodic data bit stream. Recirculation of the received information and parity symbols is also used for decoding.
Abstract: A slow fade cast iron inocculant is made up of(a) a silicon-containing matrix of iron silicon alloys and having a crystal structure,(b) compounds, present in the matrix crystal structure, of high-melting point calcium aluminum silicates, generally in the form CaO.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.2SiO.sub.2 +Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.2SiO.sub.2, and(c) a dicalcium aluminum silicate material with up to 20% by weight of silicon carbide and 10% by weight of calcium carbide.The relation between the matrix and the high-melting point calcium aluminum silicates to the dicalcium silicate material is about 1 to 0.05-0.2. The amount of high-melting point calcium aluminum silicates in the matrix is 5 to 30% by weight and, more specially 8 to 15% by weight.
Abstract: An extractor carriage is furnished on each side with an elbow bracket projecting towards its lower portion. To each of these brackets is attached the end of a cable which moves the carriage in its forward direction towards the centrifuging machine. Each cable is protected at its upper portion from sand debris by lateral wings extending from the upper portions of a trough which receives the debris. These cables, as well as a third cable for returning the carriage, are wound around a single motor drum driven by hydraulic motors which are capable of operating at several speeds. The invention may be applied to centrifuging equipment for cast iron pipe.
Abstract: The device comprises a syphon which connects a reservoir to a collecting recipient. The reservoir is supplied with liquid through a valve. A tube extends the reservoir upwardly and carries a detector which checks the level situated just above the syphon. A second detector is placed at the outlet of the syphon. The two detectors are electrically connected to the control of the valve so as to close the valve when the liquid reaches the detector checking the level and to preclude the opening of the valve so long as the detector receives liquid issuing from the syphon. The amount of liquid poured upon each opening of the valve is thus always strictly the same.Application to the preparation of mixtures having a precise and adjustable concentration, such as a mixture of powdered milk and water.
Abstract: The present invention provides a highly automated agricultural production system which comprises, as essential components:1. A sensing subsystem comprising direct and indirect sensing means in an agricultural production area. The direct sensing means are generally ground or plant mounted. The indirect sensing means are remote from the area being sensed. The direct and indirect sensing means are adapted to jointly generate data on all important parameters in the homogeneous agricultural production area;2. A data transmitting subsystem for forwarding data generated by the direct and indirect sensing means to computing means and for transmitting instructions from the computing means via interfacing means (controllers) to various devices (field effectors) in the agricultural area to perform various functions;3. A computing subsystem linked by way of said data transmitting subsystem to said indirect and direct sensing means in a pattern of many feedback loops.
