  • Patent number: 8351634
Abstract: A side-ported MEMS microphone package defines an acoustic path from a side of the package substrate to a microphone die disposed within a chamber defined by the substrate and a lid attached to the substrate. Optionally or alternatively, a circuit board, to which the microphone package is mounted, may define an acoustic path from an edge of the circuit board to a location under the microphone package, adjacent a bottom port on the microphone package. In either case, the acoustic path may be a hollow passage through at least a portion of the substrate or the circuit board. The passage may be defined by holes, channels, notches, etc. defined in each of several layers of a laminated substrate or circuit board, or the passage may be defined by holes drilled, molded or otherwise formed in a solid or laminated substrate or circuit board.

  • Patent number: 8351632
Abstract: A microphone system has a base coupled with first and second microphone apparatuses. The first microphone apparatus is capable of producing a first output signal having a noise component, while the second microphone apparatus is capable of producing a second output signal. The first microphone apparatus may have a first back-side cavity and the second microphone may have a second back-side cavity. The first and second back-side cavities may be fluidly unconnected. The system also has combining logic operatively coupled with the first microphone apparatus and the second microphone apparatus. The combining logic uses the second output signal to remove at least a portion of the noise component from the first output signal.

  • Patent number: 8343716
Abstract: A method of forming a variable pattern across a wafer using a reticle forms a plurality of first patterns on the wafer. The first pattern is repeated across the wafer and each first pattern has a first readable element. The method also forms a plurality of second patterns on the wafer. The second patterns is repeated across the wafer and each second pattern has a second readable element. The second patterns are positioned relative to the first patterns by aligning a first second pattern relative to one portion of a corresponding first pattern and then incrementally misaligning each successive second pattern in a row or a column relative to its corresponding first pattern. Thus, each corresponding first readable element and second readable element form a corresponding variable pattern.

  • Patent number: 8343369
Abstract: A method of producing a MEMS device removes the bottom side of a device wafer after its movable structure is formed. To that end, the method provides the device wafer, which has an initial bottom side. Next, the method forms the movable structure on the device wafer, and then removes substantially the entire initial bottom side of the device wafer. Removal of the entire initial bottom side effectively forms a final bottom side.

  • Patent number: 8345819
Abstract: A system and method for inspecting a vehicle by means of one or more sources and detectors of penetrating radiation. The source(s) and detector(s) are carried on a mobile conveyance and deployed at a point of operation. One source swings away from the conveyance on a deployable member, such as a boom, such that the source can irradiate a vehicle from above or below. A detector deploys outwardly from the mobile conveyance, remaining mechanically coupled to the mobile conveyance in a position in a horizontal plane, such that the detector intercepts penetrating radiation from the source positioned above the inspected vehicle, which penetrating radiation has interacted with the inspected vehicle. A ramp may be provided to allow the inspected vehicle to be driven to a position between the vertically irradiating source and a transmission detector.

  • Patent number: 8346551
Abstract: A method for adapting a codebook for speech recognition, wherein the codebook is from a set of codebooks comprising a speaker-independent codebook and at least one speaker dependent codebook. A speech input is received and a feature vector based on the received speech input is determined. For each of the Gaussian densities, a first mean vector is estimated using an expectation process and taking into account the determined feature vector. For each of the Gaussian densities, a second mean vector using an Eigenvoice adaptation is determined taking into account the determined feature vector. For each of the Gaussian densities, the mean vector is set to a convex combination of the first and the second mean vector. Thus, this process allows for adaptation during operation and does not require a lengthy training phase.
