  • Patent number: 8189690
Abstract: A system to parse both telemetry data and corresponding encoded video data wherein the telemetry and video data are subsequently synchronized based upon temporal information, such as a time stamp. The telemetry data and the video data are originally unsynchronized and the data for each is acquired by a separate device. The acquiring devices may be located within or attached to an aerial vehicle. The system receives the telemetry data and the encoded video data and outputs a series of synchronized video images with telemetry data. Thus, telemetry information is associated with each video image. The telemetry data may be acquired at a different rate than the video data. As a result, telemetry data may be interpolated or extrapolated to correspond to each video image. The present system operates in real-time, thus data acquired from aerial vehicles can be displayed on a map.

  • Patent number: 8190426
Abstract: An audio enhancement refines a short-time spectrum. The refinement may reduce overlap between audio sub-bands. The sub-bands are transformed into sub-band short-time spectra. A portion of the spectra are time-delayed. The sub-band short-time spectrum and the time-delayed portion are filtered to obtain a refined sub-band short-time spectrum. The refined spectrum improves audio processing.

  • Patent number: 8189810
Abstract: A system reduces noise or other external signals that may affect communication. A device converts sound from two or more microphones into an operational signal. Based on one or both signals, a beamformer generates an intermediate signal. Reflected or other undesired signals may be estimated or measured by an echo canceller. Interference may be measured or estimated by processing the echo-reduced signal or estimate by a blocking matrix. An interference canceller may reduce the interference that may modify or disrupt a signal based on the output of the blocking matrix and the intermediate signal.

  • Patent number: 8184298
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for rendering quantitative phase maps across and through transparent samples. A broadband source is employed in conjunction with an objective, Fourier optics, and a programmable two-dimensional phase modulator to obtain amplitude and phase information in an image plane. Methods, referred to as Fourier transform light scattering (FTLS), measure the angular scattering spectrum of the sample. FTLS combines optical microscopy and light scattering for studying inhomogeneous and dynamic media. FTLS relies on quantifying the optical phase and amplitude associated with a coherent image field and propagating it numerically to the scattering plane. Full angular information, limited only by the microscope objective, is obtained from extremely weak scatterers, such as a single micron-sized particle. A flow cytometer may employ FTLS sorting.

  • Patent number: 8184848
Abstract: A liquid level detection method includes capturing an image of a liquid surface, a structural surface, and graduation markings provided on the structural surface using an image-capturing device to thereby obtain an initial image. Subsequently, the initial image is processed so as to generate a processed image, and a level reference value of the liquid surface is obtained from the processed image. The level reference value represents a height of the liquid surface in terms of inherent characteristics of the processed image. Lastly, a liquid level of the liquid surface is calculated based on a relative proportional relation among the level reference value, an overall height of the processed image in terms of the inherent characteristics of the processed image, and dimensions of any one of the initial and processed images relative to the graduation markings.

  • Patent number: 8180069
Abstract: A signal processor uses input devices to detect speech or aural signals. Through a programmable set of weights and/or time delays (or phasing) the output of the input devices may be processed to yield a combined signal. The noise contributions of some or each of the outputs of the input devices may be estimated by a circuit element or a controller that processes the outputs of the respective input devices to yield power densities. A short-term measure or estimate of the noise contribution of the respective outputs of the input devices may be obtained by processing the power densities of some or each of the outputs of the respective input devices. Based on the short-term measure or estimate, the noise contribution of the combined signal may be estimated to enhance the combined signal when processed further. An enhancement device or post-filter may reduce noise more effectively and yield robust speech based on the estimated noise contribution of the combined signal.
