  • Patent number: 4838404
Abstract: A token and photo-detector circuitry in an electronic device used for supplying electrical power to an external appliance for an amount of time represented on the token. The token contains encoded information in a base numbering system in several regions of the token and this information is read by the circuitry to represent a time value whereby the circuit relays power to the appliance for an equivalent length of time. Several tokens may be deposited into the device in any orientation so as to accumulate time for use of the appliance. The device is programmable and can communicate with the user/operator with the appropriate hardware additions.

  • Patent number: 4820102
Abstract: An arrangement in a press feed line for picking up and conveying metal blanks at generally the same rate of speed they exit speed from the press, and automatically stacking them on a stacker car, or the like. The stacker car has a rotatable base supporting a pallet, which in turn supports the stacked blanks, and is designed for sideshifting and raising and lowering of the base, in the stacking station, thereby allowing the desired positioning of the stacked blanks on the pallet and the pallet on the base. Automated adjustable devices which may conform to the configuration of the blank neatly stack the blanks and variations to the arrangment allow more than one blank to be removed from different sources in the press, thereby permitting more than one stack to be made simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4812079
Abstract: An embedding apparatus for optionally cutting through different densities of soil and rock in order to embed cable in a waterbed. The apparatus comprises a low pressure jet assembly for cutting into the soil, a rock-cutting assembly with teeth for cutting into soft rock; a rock-embedment depressor with a rotary saw blade assembly for cutting into relatively harder rock; and a depth sensor device. The low pressure jet assembly is part of a pivotal soil embedment depressor and liquifies the soil without any permanent soil displacement. The rock embedment depressor is selectively attachable to the soil embedment depressor, and has jets connected to a source of pressurized fluid to provide an hydraulic cushion thereunder and to clear the rock debris for the embedment of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4807653
Abstract: A system for pickling hot rolled carbon steel strip with hydrochloric acid completely and uniformly in optimum time. The system consists of a series of cells made up of a number of section modules, each having a straight narrow passageway with monolithic top and bottom walls through which the strip and pickling liquor travels and a pair of cooperative conduits in the top and bottom walls for introducing the fluid into the passageway. A wringer roll assembly with motor driven wringer rolls push the strip through each cell and consists of a housing having walls closely spaced to the rolls and a sealing element in the walls for the concentration of acid in each individual cell. The rate of pickling on the strip is increased due to the turbulence of the circulating pickling liquor within each cell, the higher temperatures, and the high concentration in each cell; the latter two of which are due to the design of the section modules.

  • Patent number: 4782556
Abstract: A handle for a luggage case made of two longitudinal spaced apart rows of heavy cord of twisted material with an outer piece of fabric material folded longitudinally around the two rows and sewn along a longitudinal centerline to form a strap. The cords are centrally located and of a length such that it determines the length of the handle and forms a substantially rigid, padded central portion of the handle. The opposite ends of the formed strap are free of the corded fabric, are slid through attachment loops, and folded under until the ends substantially come together thereby forming a lower and upper layer for the handle. A sleeve is wrapped around the juncture of the ends, and both upper and lower layers are fixed together.

  • Patent number: 4761983
Abstract: An arrangement for winding material onto a coiler drum along a passline of a hot reversing mill comprising an apparatus having two pivotal arms mounted on a common shaft and movable in a different arcuate path toward and away from the coiler drum. Rollers at the end of the arms tightly enwrap the material around the drum when the arms are positioned against the drum as the material is being underwound onto the drum. The roller of one of the arms may act as a deflector roller when positioned away from the drum as the material is being overwound onto the drum. The other arm consists of two wrapper rollers on a pivotal mounting for their proper orientation around the drum and for flat passes of the material through the mill. This other arm is positioned away from the drum below the passline to allow a retractable table roll assembly consisting of a plurality of table rolls to be positioned in the passline for supporting the material.

  • Patent number: 4724757
Abstract: A press having a stationary upper bolster and a movable lower bolster carried by two outer and two inner frame plates located near the ends and center of the platens respectively. Through the use of strain gauges measuring the load on the product provided on either sides of each frame plate and servo-operated piston cylinders connected to the lower bolster controlling the output force, a deflection of the lower bolster is made to be parallel to the deflection of the upper bolster so that an equal pressure distribution results in compression therebetween thereby producing a uniform thickness in the product.

  • Patent number: 4706484
Abstract: An internal frame carrying vertical rolls of a roll set permanently remains in the mill. The frame consists of spaced-apart cross members tied together on each end by a yoke member. Clamping plates hold the frame down in the mill. Pass line adjustment of the vertical rolls is done through vertical movement of the frame. The yoke on the operating side is removable and is raised and lowered for roll set changing, and is equipped at its top with tracks which in the removable yoke's lower position form part of a rail system in the roll set changing operation. Pins and cylinders hold the removable yoke to the cross members. Stooling pins are automatically engaged in the chocks of the vertical and horizontal rolls forming an interlocking roll set for its removal from the mill.

  • Patent number: 4691549
Abstract: A substantial amount of liquid lubricant used in a cold strip rolling mill is prevented from passing between the area of the work roll necks and work roll bodies not in contact with a strip by locating in a strip guiding means on the entry side adjacent both edges of the strip, several zoned air nozzles which delivery a positive pressure to force the liquid away from this area, in a direction toward the center of the strip and rolls, and which nozzles are controlled according to the width of strip being rolled. The relatively small amount of liquid finding its way onto the delivery side is removed from the strip by providing in the strip guiding means both positive and negative air pressure means located above and below the strip, and negatively pressurized longitudinal enclosures located adjacent both edges of the strip and the said area.

  • Patent number: 4679740
Abstract: A wedge and clamp device for retaining a wedge in a slot of a disc and against a breaker bar of a rotor assembly in an impact crusher. The clamping arrangement comprises a sleeve which is placed inwardly in the slot, two plates each mounted along the opposed outer faces of the disc in alignment with the sleeve and a bolt extending through the sleeve and two plates. The wedge has a U-groove along its top surface to receive the opposite edges of the disc, and the two plates overlap the wedge so that the wedge can move in a direction out of the slot to increase the holding force against the breaker bar during operation of the crusher.
