  • Patent number: 7404543
Abstract: A valve actuator is disclosed for use with short throw valves. The actuator includes a plate perpendicular to the valve stem that has a slot formed of regions having different radii of curvature centered on the valve stem. An eccentric cam is attached to a handle mounted on the valve stem. The cam extends through the slot and is rotatable for positioning at a radius corresponding to the radius of the different slot regions. When the cam is rotated so that it may traverse a slot region, the handle can be turned to move the valve closing member through an angle subtended by the slot region. This permits the valve to be opened or closed in a step-wise fashion and prevents rapid opening and closing of the valve that can cause a water hammer effect.

  • Patent number: 7401819
Abstract: A preassembled mechanical pipe coupling having spacers is disclosed. The coupling has a plurality of interconnectable segments that straddle the ends of pipe elements to be joined. The segments have arcuate surfaces that engage outer surfaces of the pipe elements. Spacers, positioned between the segments, maintain them in spaced apart relation sufficient to allow the pipe elements to be inserted between the segments. The segments have adjustably tightenable connection members for connecting the segments and drawing them to one another. When the connection members are tightened and the effect of the spacers is overcome, the arcuate surfaces are brought into engagement with the outer surfaces of the pipe elements.

  • Patent number: 7400431
Abstract: A method and a device for encoding and reconstructing computer-generated video holograms using a conventional LC display: it provides holographic reconstruction of three-dimensional scenes using electronically controllable pixel in a holographic array (3) with a conventional resolution, and is reasonably free from flickering and cross-talk. Reconstruction is in real time, and for both eyes at the same time, over a large viewing zone. The method takes advantage of an optical focusing means (2) in order to image vertically coherent light emitted by a line light source (1) into viewing windows (8R, 8L) after modulation by the pixel array (3). The holographic reconstruction (11) of the scene is rendered visible from viewing windows (8R, 8L) for both eyes of an observer by way of diffraction at the pixels.

  • Patent number: 7396202
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of a lift and carrier assembly for a personal-transportation vehicle includes a deck frame, a platform, and a trolley assembly mounted on the deck frame. The trolley assembly includes a drive nut, a motor for rotating the drive nut, and a drive screw threadably coupled to the drive nut so that rotation of the drive nut causes the platform and the drive motor to translate linearly in relation to the deck frame. The lift and carrier assembly also includes an arm assembly mounted on the trolley system and comprising a first and a second arm member, and an actuator pivotally coupled to the first and second arm members for moving the first and second arm members so that first and second arm members move the platform between an upper and a lower position in relation to the deck frame.

  • Patent number: 7392820
Abstract: An automatic shut-off valve suitable for watering of batteries is disclosed. The valve is formed by a chamber having an inlet and an outlet. A seat surrounds the outlet. A spring biased piston within the cylinder is movable into and out of sealing engagement with the seat to open and close the valve. A flow deflecting surface is positioned between the inlet and the piston. Water flow is directed around the piston to eliminate drag that would force the piston into engagement with the seat. A second deflector surface directs flow against the piston to bias it open. An actuator cup, fed by a nozzle extending from the outlet, draws the piston into engagement with the seat when the cup is sealed by engagement with the electrolyte surface. The valve may also employ a float actuator connected to the piston.

  • Patent number: 7395414
Abstract: A method and apparatus for steering instructions dynamically, at issue time, so as to maximize the efficiency of use of execution units being shared by multiple threads being processed by an SMT processor. Resource vectors are used at issue time to redirect instructions, from threads being processed simultaneously, to shared resources for which the multiple threads are competing. The existing resource vectors for instructions that are queued for issuance are analyzed and, where appropriate, dynamically recalculated and modified for maximum efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7390061
Abstract: A device for adjustment of the level of inclination of the back part of a motor vehicle seat having a device part (2) connected to the seat part and a device part (3) connected to the backrest, which can be pivoted opposite to each other about a pivot axis (14), wherein both device parts (2,3) have parts of gearings (4,5) forming a swash mechanism, which roll over each other under the influence of cam means (11) that can be rotated about a pivot axis (14). The drive of the cam means (11) is provided via a two-part carrier, comprised of a metal carrier boss (17) and a metal carrier plate (18) non-rotatingly connected therewith. The carrier boss (17) has a collar (17.2) for axial bracketing of the device parts (2,3) on one side of the device for adjustment of the level of inclination (1). The object is to configure this type of device for adjustment of the level of inclination, so that no longer requires an additional locking ring for axial bilateral bracketing of the device parts (2,3).

  • Patent number: 7388675
Abstract: An interferometer for measuring the flatness, variation of thickness and parallelism of large, thin transparent wafers held vertically and undistorted by gravitational forces. A sodium lamp provides monochromatic light that is diffusely reflected off a background screen towards the wafer. A reference flat surface is positioned sufficiently closely to the wafer that an interference fringe pattern is formed that is a measure of the air gap between the reference flat surface and the surface of the wafer being measured. The background screen is angled so that the fringe pattern, which is localized at the air gap can be viewed at an angle to a normal to the wafer. The background screen has trapezoidal markings that, when viewed at the angle required to see the fringes, appear as a grid. This allows counting of the number of fringes visible within a fixed distance to characterize the surface flatness.
