Abstract: It has been discovered that certain hot melt adhesive formulations can be produced which exhibit superior lay-flat properties when used as bookbinding adhesives. The formulations incorporate copolymers of ethylene and unsaturated esters. The resulting bookbinding adhesives have viscosities of 2,000 to 8,000 cps at 177.degree. C. The bookbinding adhesives are found to impart lay-flat properties to books when the adhesives have a tensile to elongation ratio of .ltoreq.1.45.
Abstract: A process for producing a high density polyethylene resin which has a negligible n-paraffin content while having a melt index ratio of at least 75 by polymerizing ethylene with a minor amount of a diene in the presence of a supported organophosphorous modified vanadium-containing catalyst component. Vanadium-containing catalyst components useful with an organoaluminum cocatalyst for polymerizing ethylene with an aliphatic diene to produce high density resins having not only a low C.sub.10 -C.sub.32 n-paraffin content (characteristic of high molecular weight polymers having a narrow molecular weight distribution), but, surprisingly, also a melt index ratio desirable for melt blowing applications more characteristic of vanadium catalyzed polymers (which have relatively high n-paraffin content), are obtained by contacting an inert support material with an organoaluminum compound, an optional halogenating agent, a vanadium compound, and an organophosphorous compound.
Abstract: Resins having a softening point from 10.degree. C. to 120.degree. C. especially 10.degree. C. to 80.degree. C. being a copolymer of a feed which is predominantly C.sub.5 olefines and diolefines and 10 to 60 wt. % of one or more monovinyl aromatic compounds are used as a tackifier for acrylic polymers or copolymers particularly in aqueous based pressure sensitive adhesives.
Abstract: Resin emulsions are prepared by forming an emulsion of an aqueous solution of an unsaturated material reactive with the resin in the liquid resin, causing the material and the resin to react and adding sufficient water to invert the emulsion to form an emulsion of the reacted resin in water to produce emulsions with improved mechanical stability useful as tackifiers in water-based pressure-sensitive adhesive coating materials in high speed coating lines giving reduced deposits and extended coating times.

Abstract: Polyolefin material having improved resistance to heat and discoloration comprising amount of a stabilizing composition said stabilizing composition comprising a relatively high molecular weight hindered amine compound and an organic phosphorus compound having relatively low hygroscopicity and a hydrotalcite.
Abstract: Described is a magnesium-transition metal containing catalyst component, comprising a solid reaction product obtained by treating a solid support material in an inert solvent in any order with (A) a halogenated silane compound, (B) an alkoxy-containing magnesium compound, (C) and acyl halide, (D) at least one transition metal compound of a Group IVb-VIb or VIII metal, and optionally (E) treating the magnesium-transition metal containing product with an organometallic compound of a Group IIa, IIb, or IIIa metal. The magnesium-transition metal containing catalyst component, when employed with known Ziegler cocatalyst, provides a catalyst system which have very high catalytic activities for production of polyolefin of high bulk density. The polymerization kinetics of the catalyst system is controllable as a function of the reagent molar ratios selected for production of the magnesium-transition metal containing catalyst component.
Abstract: A catalyst component useful for (co)polymerizing ethylene under high temperatures and pressures comprising the reaction product obtained by treating a magnesium halide supported titanium halide precursor with Lewis acid, thoroughly washing the solid reaction product therefrom and prepolymerizing the washed solid product with an alpha-olefin having from 4-12 carbon atoms.
