  • Patent number: 6112816
Abstract: A sliding sleeve is provided to control the flow of fluids through a tubular conduit. The sliding sleeve may include a housing having a longitudinal bore, at least one annulus pressure port, and at least one fluid flow port. An inner sleeve is disposed for axial movement within the longitudinal bore of the housing, and includes at least one fluid flow port for sealably cooperating with the fluid flow port in the housing to control the flow of fluids through the tubing string. A piston is associated with the inner sleeve and the housing. The piston is initially releasably secured to the housing. The sliding sleeve is initially provided with the fluid flow ports in a closed position, and is actuated by applying annulus pressure to the piston through the at least one annulus pressure port in the housing. The annulus pressure releases the piston from the housing and forces the piston and inner sleeve upwardly to establish fluid communication through the fluid flow ports.

  • Patent number: 6082455
Abstract: The present invention is a combination wireline retrievable, side pocket locatable, fluid measurement and control assembly, which permits measurement and control of fluid from a first downhole production zone while maintaining fluid flow through the tubing from other downhole production zones. The various components of the fluid measurement and control assembly may be separately installed in or retrieved from by either wireline or coiled tubing intervention methods and can remain installed in the production tubing while installing or retrieving other downhole tools through wireline or coiled tubing intervention methods.

  • Patent number: 6026897
Abstract: An improved apparatus for transmitting signals through a well tool is provided. In a broad aspect, the present invention is a communication conduit in a well tool comprising: a cylindrical mandrel having a longitudinal bore therethrough, an inner diameter, an outer diameter, and an outside circumference; a well tool attached to the outside circumference of the cylindrical mandrel; and at least one signal transmitting passageway positioned in the mandrel between the inner diameter and the outer diameter. In a specific embodiment, the well tool may be a packer. The at least one signal transmitting passageway may be used as a carrier for electrical or fiber optic conductors, or it may be a pressure retaining member whereby pressurized hydraulic fluid may be passed through to a device below the well tool without interruption.

  • Patent number: 6012518
Abstract: An electro-hydraulic well tool actuator is provided to control fluid-actuated well tools. The actuator may include a cylindrical housing at least one hydraulic fluid flowpath within the housing, a communication link sealably connected to the housing on one end and a control panel located at the earth's surface on the other, at least one solenoid valve mounted in the housing for directing the flow of hydraulic fluid, and at least one discharge port in the housing for delivering pressurized hydraulic fluid to a hydraulically actuated downhole device. Alternate embodiments include an onboard hydraulic system, and different methods of interfacing with downhole fluid actuated devices.
