    Abstract: Novel ultraviolet absorbing compounds that are liquid in nature, are extremely low in color and are highly effective in providing protection in wavelength ranges for which previous attempts at low-color ultraviolet absorbers have failed are provided herein. Such compounds provide such excellent, inexpensive, and beneficial protection from ultraviolet exposure within various media, including, but not limited to, clear thermoplastics. The particular compounds are generally polymeric in nature including various chain lengths of polyoxyalkylenes thereon and are liquid in nature to facilitate handling and introduction within the target media. In addition, such ultraviolet absorbers also exhibit extremely low migratory properties thereby providing long-term protective benefits to the target media as well.

    Abstract: Airbag cushions manufactured from polyester yarn having certain levels of intrinsic viscosity (IV) and certain specific carboxyl end group (“CEG”) levels perform unexpectedly well in high temperature and high humidity environments for airbag cushion applications. This specification identifies certain polyester yarns and characteristics of such polyester yarns that are necessary to achieve unexpectedly good performance in such high humidity and high temperature applications. A polymeric polyester yarn for airbags, said yarn having a high degree of tenacity even after a long period of exposure to high temperature and high humidity conditions is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, a polyester yarn having CEG of less than about 60 equivalents/106 gram, and more preferably less than about 30 equivalents/106 grams, is particularly useful. In another embodiment, a polyester yarn having an IV value of at least about 0.6 performs exhibits superior properties.

    Abstract: Wash-durable fluorochemical-containing textile and/or fiber treatments that simultaneously impart soil resistance (or soil-release) properties and moisture wicking characteristics to target fabric substrates are provided. Such treatments surprisingly impart these two simultaneous effects to target fabrics and/or fibers because fluorochemicals generally provide moisture repellency rather than moisture wicking capabilities. As prior soil release/moisture wicking treatments do not function properly, or, alternatively, compromise hand or other properties of certain target textiles after treatment application, a new, effective, soil release/moisture wicking formulation for such purposes was needed. The inventive treatment is extremely durable on such fabric substrates; after a substantial number of standard launderings and dryings, the treatment does not wear away in any appreciable amount and thus the substrate retains its soil release/moisture wicking properties.

    Abstract: Improvements in preventing heat- and moisture-shrink problems in specific polypropylene tape fibers are demonstrated herein. Such fibers are manufactured through the initial production of polypropylene films or tubes which are then slit into very thin, though flat tape fibers thereafter. Such fibers include rigidifying nucleating compounds that nucleate polymer crystals within the target polypropylene after exposure to sufficient heat to melt the initial pelletized polymer and upon allowing such a melt to cool. Such a method basically entails the incorporation of an identifier or marking means within the edges of target optical discs or within any other portion of a target disc such that exposure to non-visible light sources will provide the desired identification upon irradiation or detection of the marking means therein. Such an identifier or marking agent thus may be utilized in conjunction with a transparent holding case whereby the needed light source may be exposed through the transparent walls thereof to permit detection of counterfeit or authentic discs without requiring opening of the case itself. Such a method may also be utilized for discs that are removed from or have not been placed and sealed within such a case as well.

In accordance with one embodiment, used carpet tiles, which are recovered, are subjected to a choosing step according to the degree of stains, etc. The chosen carpet tiles are washed with a high-pressure fluid, and entangling of piles is removed and piles raised. The resultant carpet tiles are subjected to a choosing step once again according to the degree of stains, etc. The chosen carpet tiles are treated with such a design and color for recycling as to make less visible the stains or non-uniformity in color remaining after the washing, using a design computer, etc. Thus, reproduced carpet tiles are produced and subjected a choosing step once again, and the chosen ones are shipped.

    Abstract: An improved camouflaged product and method of making such a product is disclosed. A multi-layered camouflage construction may comprise a first textile substrate and a second textile substrate secured to each other along parallel lines of stitching. The second textile substrate may be cut to form lobes oriented transversely to the lines of stitching to simulate the appearance of natural objects in the terrain, such as leaves or foliage. Thread which is capable of shrinking is used to attach textile substrates to each other, and then the thread is heated to shrink the thread into the stitch, forming a hardened seam with gathering and bunching of one or more substrates along the seam. Gathering of substrate along a seam contributes to the three-dimensional visual effect of the camouflage construction.

    Abstract: A specific combination of two different polyolefin clarifying and nucleating agents, namely 3,4-dimethyldibenzylidene sorbitol and p-methyldibenzylidene sorbitol is provided. Such a combination surprisingly provides improved clarification and crystallization temperatures to polypropylene articles and formulations, better than bis-p-methyldibenzylidene sorbitol alone and equivalent or better than 3,4-dimethyldibenzylidene sorbitol. Such a combination of compounds thus permits the utilization of a new additive for the purpose of modifying polyolefin properties, such as polypropylene clarification and nucleation. The inventive combination may be introduced within any polyolefin composition, again preferably polypropylene, which may then be molded into any shape or form. A method of producing a polyolefin plastic utilizing the inventive combination of compounds is also provided.
