Patent number: 6803189Abstract: The invention provides a wide range of methods and compositions for detecting and treating cervical cancer in an individual. Specifically, the invention provides target cervical cancer-associated proteins, which permit a rapid detection, preferably before metastases occur, of cervical cancer. The target cervical cancer-associated protein, may be detected, for example, by reacting the sample with a labeled binding moiety, for example, a labeled antibody capable of binding specifically to the protein. The invention also provides kits useful in the detection of cervical cancer in an individual. In addition, the invention provides methods utilizing the cervical cancer-associated proteins either as targets for treating cervical cancer or as indicators for monitoring of the efficacy of such a treatment.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1999Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: Matritech, Inc.Inventors: Susan K. Patent number: 6369944Abstract: A projection screen element is described that includes a substrate and a diffusion coating disposed on the substrate. The diffusion coating includes a matrix having a first index of refraction and a plurality of particles having a second index of refraction disposed within the matrix. The substrate may be translucent for use as a rear projection screen element or reflective for use as a front projection screen element. A method of making a projection screen element also is described.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Nashua CorporationInventor: Eitan C. Zeira

Patent number: 6145804Abstract: The invention concerns thermoregulated molds and tools with a defined, fine-branched and point-focal interior heat-transferring conduit, process for their production, their use and process for the thermoregulation of molds and tools. According to the invention, these molds and tools contain on the inside a thermoregulating conduit in configuration of an arterial vessel system, through which an appropriate heat-transferring medium flows for heating or for cooling. The production of these molds and tools is conducted by means of rapid prototyping processes, particularly stereolithography.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1998Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Forderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.Inventors: Frithjof Baumann, Dietmar Volkle

Patent number: 6133444Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing novel purine PNA synthons having protecting groups which may be removed under mild conditions. The purine PNA synthons generally are prepared by coupling purine derivatives having carbamate protection to a protected N-(2-aminoethyl)-glycine backbone. By a method of this invention, purine PNA synthons may have orthogonal protection of the carbamate protected purine and the protected backbone. The purine PNA synthons are useful in the synthesis of peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) and other oligomers such as PNA-DNA chimeras, and may be used in automated synthesizers. In practicing methods of the invention, novel compositions of matter also are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 17, 2000Assignee: PerSeptive Biosystems, Inc.Inventors: James M. Patent number: 5797031Abstract: A digital data processor has a central processing unit (CPU) that operates in plural addressing modes and or more adapters for receiving peripheral devices, e.g., PCMCIA devices. A first peripheral device service subsystem that handles communications between peripheral devices coupled to the adapters and software clients executing on the CPU in a first addressing mode. A second peripheral device service subsystem that handles communications between peripheral devices coupled to the adapters and clients executing on the CPU in a second addressing mode. The first peripheral device subsystem includes a configuration management section that allocates digital data processor resources, e.g., memory space, input/output channels, direct memory access (DMA) channels and interrupt (IRQ) levels, used for communications between the peripheral devices and clients, regardless of whether those clients are executing in the first or second addressing modes.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1997Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: SystemSoft CorporationInventors: Raymond E. Shapiro, Paul C. Stanley, Steven Schumacher

Patent number: 5784490Abstract: A method, and related apparatus, for recognizing alphanumeric characters within a sample includes applying ideal alphanumeric character templates to the sample to identify each template which is included substantially within the sample. A template will be considered to be included substantially within the sample even if the sample has portions thereof with which the template does not substantially correspond or substantially match. That is, a template can be considered to be included substantially within the sample even if the template and the sample do not have a substantially one-to-one symmetrical correspondence. Of all of the templates which are identified as included substantially within the sample, the template having the most information (e.g., the template which requires the largest number of data points to define its shape) is selected as a recognized version of the sample.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1996Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Mohamad A. Patent number: 5741370Abstract: A laminated solar cell module with a backskin layer that reduces the materials and labor required during the manufacturing process. The solar cell module includes a rigid front support layer formed of light transmitting material having first and second surfaces. A transparent encapsulant layer has a first surface disposed adjacent the second surface of the front support layer. A plurality of interconnected solar cells have a first surface disposed adjacent a second surface of the transparent encapsulant layer. The backskin layer is formed of a thermoplastic olefin, which includes first ionomer, a second ionomer, glass fiber, and carbon black. A first surface of the backskin layer is disposed adjacent a second surface of the interconnected solar cells. The transparent encapsulant layer and the backskin layer, in combination, encapsulate the interconnected solar cells.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1996Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignee: Evergreen Solar, Inc.Inventor: Jack I. Patent number: 5652832Abstract: A system for diagnosing and resolving faults in the allocation of resources to PCMCIA-compliant devices includes an extension of a super client to include functionality for storing and generating information about resources allocated to the sockets, as well information regarding any failed requests for resource allocation. A fault detection and correction element interprets that information to identify faults in the allocation of resources to the PCMCIA-compliant devices. Those faults are dynamically corrected via modification of a super client or card services resources database, and do not require reinitialization, or "rebooting," of the digital data processor.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: SystemSoft CorporationInventors: Edward S.
