Abstract: A safety gate for efficiently controlling ingress or egress for children, pets, and the like into and out of a designated area. The safety gate generally includes a support adapted to be secured to a sliding door structure, a gate including a first end and a second end, wherein the gate is movably attached to the support and a latching mechanism extending from the second end of the gate to selectively secure the gate in a closed position. The gate is adapted to extend across an opening formed between a sliding door and a door frame of the sliding door structure. The first end is movably connected to the support on a first side of the opening and the second end moves about an opposing side of the opening to adjust the gate to an open position or a closed position with respect to the opening.
