  • Patent number: 8347267
Abstract: An automated software testing system allows automated test script generation with fully parameterized scripts, execution, and result correlation. A software Application Under Test (AUT) includes a process having Graphical User Interface (GUI) windows, objects and data elements. A test thread tree is generated corresponding to these windows, objects and data elements. A data structure is generated to enumerate test cases indicative of the windows, objects and data elements. Also generated is a parameterized script implementing the test cases and having string values instead of hard-coded data. A global change manager automates modifying in the data structure, data object attributes across multiple scripts. A Scenario view or data generation member generates Test Descriptions, automatically documenting the test cases. The script is executed to apply each of the test cases to the AUT and receive responses.

  • Patent number: 8320757
Abstract: Schemes are provided for starting up optical transmission links where, after a link interruption, endpoints switch into a startup mode original detection state, and a query-transmit pulse goes out at both end points at given time intervals. In a “TRANSMITTED” handshake mode, in a loop to be passed through n times, and at least once, after the transmission of a transmit pulse, it is detected whether a received pulse is received within a given time span. If no received pulse is received, then the mode is ended and the system is returned to the original detection state. If a received pulse is received, it is answered with another transmit pulse. After the last transmit pulse, if another received pulse occurs within a given time span, the link is activated. If not, the “TRANSMITTED” handshake mode ends and the system enters the original detection state.

  • Patent number: 8299014
Abstract: A method includes positioning an effective amount of a thermal target material at a treatment site of a patient. The treatment site, that is, the location of the thermal target material, comprises a location adjacent to biological tissue to be treated. The thermal target material includes carbon molecules preferably in a carrier fluid. Regardless of the particular structure of the carbon, the carbon molecules in the material heat very rapidly in response to incident microwave radiation and radiate heat energy. The heat energy radiated from an effective amount of the thermal target material when subjected to an effective quantity of microwave energy causes localized heating around the thermal target material. This localized heating may be applied for therapeutic purposes. However, the microwave radiation necessary to produce therapeutically effective heating is insufficient to cause cellular damage in the biological tissue by direct absorption in the tissue.

  • Patent number: 8267775
Abstract: A processing device measures the time it takes for a player to take some action in a game and bases the award or result in the game for the player at least in part on that measured time. A player receives a more desirable result or outcome for a particular game play in response to a shorter player action time and/or receives a less desirable result or outcome for a particular game play in response to a longer player action time. Providing more desirable results for shorter player action times or less desirable results for longer player action times provides players an incentive that influences them to take the appropriate player actions more quickly.

  • Patent number: 8263037
Abstract: A method for producing carbon nanostructures according to the invention includes injecting acetylene gas into a reactant liquid. The injected acetylene molecules are then maintained in contact with the reactant liquid for a period of time sufficient to break the carbon-hydrogen bonds in at least some of the acetylene molecules, and place the liberated carbon ions in an excited state. The liberated carbon ions in the excited state then traverse a surface of the reactant liquid and enter a collection area where carbon ions combine to produce carbon nanostructures.

  • Patent number: 8235787
Abstract: A method includes displaying playing card face representations at an electronic player station. The displayed playing card face representations include card face representations that are included in a group of card face representations that has been assigned to the player in response to a bingo pattern achieved by the player in a bingo game. The player may then select one or more of the displayed card face representations to be replaced with one or more card face representations that are also included in the assigned group but have been concealed from the player. A prize is ultimately awarded to the player based on the card face representations remaining in the player's hand after replacement of the selected card face representations. This prize represents the player's prize for achieving the bingo pattern, but is based on the player's card hand produced after the player makes their selections and replaces the desired cards.

  • Patent number: 8213790
Abstract: The present invention encompasses a method for 1+1 protection of an optical transmission path comprising a working path and a protection path that connect a first and second terminal node. In a working mode, an optical transmission signal is transmitted via the working path from the first to the second terminal node. At the second terminal node, the optical transmission signal is split into two optical sub-signals, and one of the optical sub-signals is sent via the protection path to a protection-path connection node as a working-path control signal. In the case of an interruption of the signal transmission via the working path, the protection-path connection node detects the absence of the working-path control signal and switches the system from the working mode to a protection mode in which signal transmission is conducted via a separate protection path.

  • Patent number: 8197787
Abstract: A method includes producing an isolation atmosphere in a phase changing area above a reactant liquid and then injecting a feed material into the reactant liquid. The feed material includes a carbon-bearing material. The method further includes maintaining the molecules of the injected carbon-bearing material and any reaction products in contact with the reactant liquid for a period of time sufficient to liberate carbon atoms from the carbon-bearing material or reaction products from that material, and place the liberated carbon atoms in an excited state. Liberated carbon atoms in the excited state are then allowed to traverse a surface of the reactant liquid and flow along a particle formation path through the phase changing area so that the liberated carbon atoms may phase change to the ground state while suspended in the phase changing area.

  • Patent number: 8196456
Abstract: An autosampler for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a high-pressure injection valve (1, 2) having improved life, particularly in high pressure operation. The geometry of the valve components and the connections of the high-pressure injection valve are provided such that the switching processes do not take place in a deleterious direction. The grooves in rotor (2) and/or the port opening cross sections (131, 151) in stator (1) and the rotational direction are selected such that fluid flows from grooves under high pressure in the direction of narrow, substantially pressure-free ports are avoided. This applies in particular to the switching process from INJECT to LOAD, since the sample loop contains a relatively large dead volume of compressed fluid. In addition, the valve can be controlled according to the invention in such a manner that an appropriate time is available for reducing harmful or undesired pressure differences.
