  • Patent number: 8348117
Abstract: A stapler selectively uses enhanced leverage to break a glue bond of a staple to separate the staple from a rack of staples in the stapler. The staple does not press a working surface during this operating stage. The extra leverage stage occurs through a minority of total handle travel, preferably via a pivoting lever linked to the striker at one end and the opposite end traversing between inner spaced apart ribs underneath the handle. A remaining non-leveraged handle travel stage ejects a staple out from the stapler body against a working surface. A track supports staples from an underside of the top of the staples. The track includes an outward extending bottom support for at least one staple on the track to prevent rotation of a short rack of staples.

  • Patent number: 8308322
Abstract: A recessed ceiling light fixture with spring biased retainer clips that retract flush or are biased away from the side of the can housing for installation is disclosed. The fixture includes a housing having a side wall, a top wall, and an open bottom. Two rigid retainer clips are mounted diametrically opposed on the housing. Each retainer clip has a mounting tab inside the housing extending into a leg that passes out of the housing, which leg is bent to form an elbow, which elbow extends to a strut passing back into the housing, wherein the mounting tab selectively engages the side wall to limit movement of the spring clip. A bolt and coiled spring create compliance and bias in the spring clip by passing loosely through a slotted opening in the top wall at one end and joining the mounting tab at the other end.

  • Patent number: 8311232
Abstract: A general model is provided for predicting a loudspeaker preference rating, where the model's predicted loudspeaker preference rating is calculated based upon the sum of a plurality of weighted independent variables that statistically quantify amplitude deviations in a loudspeaker frequency response. The independent variables selected may be independent variables determined as maximizing the ability of a loudspeaker preference variable to predict a loudspeaker preference rating. A multiple regression analysis is performed to determine respective weights for the selected independent variables. The weighted independent variables are arranged into a linear relationship on which the loudspeaker preference variable depends.

  • Patent number: 8306691
Abstract: An on-board interactive electronic system for a vehicle including an operating module with a plurality of operating elements for selecting a parameter of a plurality of parameters or a specific value of the parameter. The value and the parameter may be addressed by operating at least one operating element of the operating module. The on-board interactive electronic system includes a configuration module for determining a specific parameter or a specific value of the parameter that a user wants to address, and for assigning the parameter or the value to at least one operating element, so that the parameter or the value is addressed when the at least one assigned operating element is activated.

  • Patent number: 8285485
Abstract: A system and method is provided for identifying and generating a route that provides a driver with an exhilarating ride. In an example method, the navigation system obtains location data for routes between a starting and ending location. The location data is analyzed by identifying points of inflection of the curved road portion. At least one curved segment is identified as being road portions between the points of inflection. A linear distance, Llinear, is measured between the points of inflection of the at least one curved segment. A curve depth, H, is measured by identifying the maximum distance between the line between the points of inflection and any point on the curved segment along a perpendicular to the line between points of inflection. A curved segment degree of curviness=H/Llinear is calculated and used to determine the measure of curviness of the route.
