  • Patent number: 8116697
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reducing multi-modulation radio transmit range. The method comprises determining a data modulation type at which a transmitter is operating, and adjusting a transmitter power according to the data modulation type to control transmit range. Each data modulation type may be determined to operate at a designated transmit power level by determining each data modulation type and arranging in order of a data connection rate corresponding to each data modulation type. For each data modulation type, the difference between a minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the connection rate and a minimum SNR at the next higher connection rate is calculated. Starting with the lowest data connection rate and at the maximum transmit power, the transmitter power levels are calculated for each data connection rate such that the transmitter range is limited and operation at the highest data connection rate is permitted.

  • Patent number: 8113404
Abstract: A spring energized stapler includes a “high start” design wherein a striker has a rest position above the staple track. A handle is pressed to energize a power spring while the striker remains stationary. At a predetermined position of the handle, the striker is released to eject a staple. A subassembly of a cage and the power spring provides a preload to the power spring in the rest position. The subassembly is separately movable from the handle to allow a handle pressing end to move farther than the striker's distance of travel. The handle includes a movable pivot location to enable enhanced motion of the handle pressing end. Alternatively, an optional lever links the striker to the power spring to provide leverage upon the power spring. A release latch may be mounted in front of the striker to be engaged by the lever or the handle.

  • Patent number: 8112039
Abstract: A system and method for providing radar signal detection in a communications system. In an example method, a raw energy detect signal is received and analyzed to determine if the raw energy detect signal contains a valid radar pulse. A bit is stored in a bit sequence storage device such that the bit has a first value if a valid radar pulse was detected or a second value indicating that a valid pulse was not detected. A set of bits in the bit sequence storage device are accessed to determine if a plurality of waveform-indicating locations in the bit sequence storage device includes valid pulses. In another aspect of the invention, a system detects a radar signal in a communications device. The system includes a pulse detector to detect pulses in a raw energy signal having a pulse width within a predetermined minimum and maximum pulse width. The system includes a frequency detector having a bit sequence storage device to store the bits output by the pulse detector.

  • Patent number: 8083211
Abstract: A staple remover device having first and second opposed, elongated jaws extending from a lower end of the remover toward an upper end of the remover. The jaws are pivoted to the remover at the upper end. With the remover in a substantially perpendicular orientation above a horizontal work surface, the first jaw moves toward the second jaw, actuated by a user's finger pressure. A handle extends along the remover device, the handle being normally operationally fixed to a jaw by a link including a latch, and at a pre-determined position of the first jaw to the second jaw, a release rib of at least one jaw causes the latch to suddenly de-link the handle from the jaw, wherein the de-linked handle moves in relation to the jaw and moving the handle in relation to the jaw causes the other jaw to rise, lifting out the staple.

  • Patent number: 8085963
Abstract: A combined power and audio dock for a handheld electronic device provides an integrated solution to the multiple uses of multifunction devices such as mobile telephones with built-in music players. The dock is configured with a recess into which the handheld device is docked so that all four exterior edges of the device are surrounded by the dock. This enables the dock to engage with any controls, jacks and ports along any edge of the device, and includes loudspeakers that can amplify the audio output of the device. The device is docked in an intentional assembly sequence that enables power and audio connectors to engage corresponding jacks on common, adjacent or opposing edges of the handheld device. Removal is accomplished in a reverse sequence.

  • Patent number: 8085538
Abstract: A fluid-cooled electronic housing assembly (“FCEHA”) configured for mounting within a vehicle is described. The FCEHA may be part of a fluid-cooled electronic system (“FCES”) that includes the FCEHA and a plurality of electronic components. The FCEHA is capable of providing effective cooling for the FCES while maintaining a small space requirement by utilizing a fluid cooling system that cools the housing of FCEHA. In general, the FCEHA includes a cooling-fluid channel through a heat sink that, in operation, allows a cooling fluid/liquid to flow throw the cooling-fluid channel and cool off the FCEHA more efficiently that air convection because the cooling fluid is more efficient in heat transport.
