Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for allocating radio resources in a broadband wireless communication system by adaptively grouping the radio resources. In the method, the amount of resources necessary for a transmission of data to a user terminal and the amount of the remaining allocable resources are detected. A resource allocation scheme is selected in consideration of the amount of resources necessary for the transmission of the data to the user terminal and the amount of the remaining resources. A group index of radio resources for the user terminal is determined according to the selected resource allocation scheme. Radio resources corresponding to the determined group index are allocated to the user terminal.

Abstract: A method is provided for supporting mobility of a Mobile Node (MN) in a multi-hop Internet Protocol (IP) network, in which an MN that has moved from a source Personal Area Network (PAN) to a target PAN, sends a Router Solicitation (RS) message with an option for requesting its profile to a gateway of the target PAN, and receives a Router Advertisement (RA) message from the gateway in response to the RS message. The RA message includes a home prefix of the MN as the requested profile. The method supports mobility of MNs, enables unicast communication, and facilitates efficient use of the network.

Abstract: A method is provided for registering a mobile router in an Internet Protocol version 6 over Low power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) network. The mobile router detects movement into a wireless network through the reception of a beacon message, and sends a Router Solicitation (RS) message requesting registration in the wireless network to a gateway. The gateway acquires an address of the mobile router from the RS message, stores the acquired address, assigns a new address to be used in the wireless network to the mobile router, and sends a Router Advertisement (RA) message with assigned address information and gateway address information, to the mobile router. The mobile router acquires the assigned address information and the gateway address information from the RA message.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of recognizing a text from an image. The method includes dividing the image into a predefined number of regions through a clustering technique; setting a certain area of the regions as a background region; identifying the outer peripheral pixel and inner peripheral pixel of each region except for the background region of the divided regions; setting a region identified as having one of its outer peripheral pixel and its inner peripheral pixel corresponding to a pixel of the background region, as a boundary region; and setting a region identified as having any of its outer peripheral pixel and its inner peripheral pixel not corresponding to a pixel of the background region, as a center text region, and excluding the boundary region from a binary-coding object of the text.

Abstract: A mobile communication system selection is disclosed. A method for selecting a mobile communication system of a portable terminal includes driving a first timer; checking whether a Mobile Country Code (MCC) of a region where the portable terminal is located is obtained by searching for a network until the first timer expires; when the MCC is obtained before the first timer expires, storing the obtained MCC to a previous MCC list; performing a first checking operation for checking whether the obtained MCC belongs to a list of countries supporting only a first mobile communication system; and obtaining a service of the first mobile communication system by searching for only the first mobile communication system when the obtained MCC belongs to the list of the countries supporting only the first mobile communication system.

Abstract: A method and a UE apparatus for radio resource management in a mobile communication system. When a discontinuous reception period or an inactivity period of a UE exceeds a threshold, an ENB releases resources for uplink control information transmission allocated to the UE, and the UE recognizes the release of the resources and stops transmitting the uplink control information through the resources. This reduces the explicit reconfiguration procedure through an RRC message, which is otherwise necessary whenever the UE enters a new discontinuous reception mode.

Abstract: A method for performing an encrypted voice call between a first terminal and a second terminal supporting a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)-based voice call. In the method, the first and second terminals generate and store a bio key using biographical (bio) information of a user in advance before performing a voice call, the first terminal sends a request for a voice call to the second terminal and establishing a session, the first and second terminals exchange and store a bio key stored in each terminal, and the first and second terminals generate a session shared key using the exchanged bio key and starting a Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) session, and a restored bio key by acquiring bio information from received data. User authentication is then performed by comparing the bio key with the restored bio key.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for selecting an RS mode in a BWA communication system are provided. In a method for a BS to select an RS mode in a BWA communication system, bidding prices are received from a set of RSs covered by the BS. The winner RS of at least one or more auctions is determined on the basis of the bidding values and the interference information of the RS set. The winner RS is set to operate in an active mode.

Abstract: The method for supporting continuous reception of enhanced broadcast service data comprising steps of: an MCE receiving an “MBMS Session Start Request” message from a core network; after the MCE receives the message, transmitting a response message to the core network; MCE transmitting an “MBMS Session Start Request” message to an ENB, the message including information of adjacent cells; and the ENB broadcasting the information of adjacent cells on a current cells. With the scheme of present invention, if a user wants to move to a common cell when he/she receives MBMS service in an SFN edge cell, he/she can enter the active mode and switch into the common cell so as to reduce MBMS data loss. When a UE moves from a cell with SC-PTM transmission mode into a cell with SC-PTM transmission mode, data loss can also be reduced.

Abstract: A method and a system for scanning frequencies in an electronic device include storing one or more frequencies, performing a scan based on the stored frequencies for a predetermined time interval, and establishing a connection based on the scan. The system includes an acquisition database for scanning frequencies in an electronic device, a timer module for setting a predetermined time interval as the scanning interval, and a frequency identification module for identifying one or more frequencies of a normal scan and a limited scan.

Abstract: An encoding method using a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) matrix having a codeword length of N and an information word length K is provided to improve coding efficiency, and includes generating a first parity bit vector (p1) using the low density parity check matrix, generating a second parity bit vector (p2), performing L-parallel iterative accumulation encoding on the first parity bit vector, and generating a codeword vector c=(s,p1,p2) including an information word vector and the first and second parity bit vectors. The communication method and apparatus herein provides an efficient encoding algorithm using the trade-off relationship between a circuit implementation and operation and delay complexities.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving data from a virtual input device by detecting and analyzing the motion of a user input means simply using a two-dimensional image sensor without projecting the virtual input device. In a portable terminal for receiving data from a user input means through a virtual input device, an image sensor senses the image of the user input means. An image analyzer detects the position and motion of the user input means from the image. A data input decider decides the input data based on the position and motion. A display displays the image of the user input means together with the virtual input device. An initializer sets an initial motion range and an initial feature image for the user input means.

Abstract: A mechanism to enable multiple message threads management in the context of the Converged IP Messaging (CPM) service and in the context of CPM inter-working with SMS is provided. A CPM user can simply start a message-based conversation with another CPM or Short Message Service (SMS) user without explicitly establishing a session beforehand. All messages that belong to a given conversation are displayed in the corresponding conversational view (i.e. window) in the CPM user device, even if the conversation is stopped and restarted at a later time, and even if there are multiple message threads available (currently active or stored) in the CPM device. Message structures and behavior of the CPM system elements to enable the functionalities above as well as a mechanism makes the message threads management possible even between a CPM user and an SMS user are also provided.

Abstract: A method for a user to receive an advertisement directly reflecting the user's liking. When a client registers event information set by a user into a server, the server provides a corresponding advertisement by retrieving if there exist advertisements corresponding to the event information registered into that server. Also, the client registers both event information and preference information into the server considering the liking of the user. By doing this, the user can receive an advertisement directly reflecting his liking. Also, the user information can be protected by only outputting the information into a mobile terminal.

Abstract: A genetic robot platform and a genetic robot behavior expression method. When a controller of a robot platform driving a genetic robot, which has robot-behavior-expression-related information as gene information and of which an expression behavior is determined according to the gene information, recognizes a stimulation, the controller determines whether there is an instinctive behavior corresponding to the recognized stimulation. When there is an instinctive behavior corresponding to the recognized stimulation, the controller determines whether the recognized stimulation corresponds to the first generated stimulation or a repeatedly-generated stimulation, and determines an instinctive behavior to be expressed according to the recognized stimulation and the number of times of repeated stimulations. Then, the controller enables the robot to perform the instinctive behavior corresponding to the currently-recognized stimulation by expressing the determined instinctive behavior.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for dynamically changing a password are provided. In the method, a random number is generated, and an original password and an operator are checked. The original password is changed by performing an operation of the random number and the original password based on the operator. Accordingly, the password exposure can be prevented and the personal information and asset information can be protected without using additional devices.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for dynamic channel allocation in a multiple channel wireless communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a scheduler for dividing resources to be used for a band Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) channel and a diversity channel, a generator for generating a MAP heading field including physical distribution information on the band AMC channel and the diversity channel, and a mapper for mapping the MAP heading field to a predetermined physical resource region.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for expanding a bandwidth of an input narrowband voice signal is provided. The narrowband voice signal is analyzed separately for each frame, and a Degree of Voicing (DV) and a Degree of Stationary (DS) are calculated depending on the analysis. A Degree of Difficulty of Bandwidth Expansion (DDBWE) of the narrowband voice signal is calculated based on DV and DS. Bandwidth expansion is controlled according to DDBWE.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for providing and updating PDG information. In a method for updating PDG information in a terminal, an instruction indicating an update of PDG information is received from a network apparatus. PDG information is received from the network apparatus and the received PDG information is stored in a storage unit to perform an update operation.
