  • Patent number: 8350919
Abstract: An application for a device that includes an image sensor, an orientation sensor and image capture capabilities. Operation of the device is based upon a detected orientation of the device by the orientation sensor. In one embodiment, when the device is in a horizontal orientation, the image capture operates as a digital still image camera and when the device is in a vertical orientation, the image capture operates as a digital video camera. Other orientations are anticipated including upside down as well as other operating modes such as flash enabled and flash disabled. Optionally, a control is provided to lock the operation in one of the modes irrespective of changes in the orientation of the device.

  • Patent number: 8351761
Abstract: Specified video segments within a video stream are identified. The identified video can represent commercials or can represent portions within the program information. The user can identify these undesired portions of the video. A signature generation unit produces a signature that indicates information about the undesirable video. The signatures are stored. Current video is compared with the signatures to identify portions of the video that correspond to the specified video segments. The identified portions are handled in a different way, for example, they can be played less prominently, or skipped. The signal indicative of the video stream can be produced at a different time than the signature generation. In addition, the signature generation can use biometric techniques.

  • Patent number: 8352352
Abstract: A system of using an interactive device such as an e-mail pager to obtain information from a publicly available source, such as the Internet. The e-mail pager may send information in its native format to a service that acts as an intermediary. That service takes the information and uses it to assemble a request to the actual information source, such as a Web page being accessed. If a web page is being accessed, the request is in HTML, and may include personal logon information. The response from the web page is also in HTML, and this information is received by the service, and salient information is taken from the HTML file. The information is reformatted, e.g. according to a template, into the e-mail pager?s native format, and sent to the pager. Another embodiment describes opening multiple pages, and assembling their content into a single web page.

  • Patent number: 8347367
Abstract: A technique of allowing entry of the password which is not 100% correct. This password would be used to verify identity and/or login information in low security techniques. The password is scored relative to the correct password. The scoring can take into effect least mean squares differences, and other information such as letter groups, thereby detecting missed characters or extra characters, as well as shift on the keyboard.

  • Patent number: 8314800
Abstract: Three-digital micromirror devices (“DMD”) are used to alter the shape of light that is projected onto a stage. The DMDs each receive a primary color and selectively reflects some light of that color, thereby shaping the light that is projected onto the stage. The control for the alteration is controlled by an image. That image can be processed, thereby carrying out image processing effects on the shape of the light that is displayed. One preferred application follow the shape of the performer and illuminates the performer using a shape that adaptively follows the performer's image. This results in a shadowless follow spot.

  • Patent number: 8311901
Abstract: Systems and methods for distributing products using a wide area or global computer network are provided. A method for distributing products is provided wherein a request for a product is received from a consumer, preferably using a web based interface. An indirect seller provides the web based interface and preferably maintains the inventory management system. A retailer to fulfill the consumer request for product is determined based upon the nearest retailer to the consumer that has current stock of the requested. Inventory levels of product are maintained by an inventory management system that receives shipping information from manufacturers regarding shipments of products from the manufacturers to retailers and sales information from retailers reflecting sales of products from the retailers to consumers. A terminal may also be provided at retail locations to enable users of the terminal to interact with the inventory management system while at a physical retail location.
