Patent number: 8323506Abstract: An apparatus for and method of filtering hydrocarbon contaminated water, which may be used in drainage openings in parking lots and containment areas for large sources of hydrocarbons to remove hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon contaminated water. The apparatus has a filtration compartment which filters out debris which may clog the treatment compartment. A pre-filtration and means for melting snow may be incorporated. The treatment compartment contains a hydrocarbon absorption media which absorbs any hydrocarbons present in the water rendering such water substantially hydrocarbon-free for discharge directly into a stream or groundwater. If a hydrocarbon spill occurs, the hydrocarbon absorption media forms a plug which seals off the flow of contaminated water. A hydrocarbon solubilizing material capable of effectively removing sheen in a first pass may be disposed as a top layer over the hydrocarbon absorption media.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2012Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: SPI Filtration LLCInventor: William J Gannon

Patent number: 8310322Abstract: Electric Solenoid Actuators are used in a wide range of industries that require the combination of electrical, electromagnetic and mechanical apparatus and systems to activate or de-activate a device, automatically, or semi-automatically. Solenoid actuators are used in a variety of applications ranging from valve controls, electrical switch controls or contactors, or other electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical systems and/or combinations thereof. Electric solenoid actuators are preferred from pneumatic and hydraulic actuators for many practical reasons. There are disadvantages with the use of electrical solenoids and this may include the limitation of motion as well as the limited force which is dictated by the strength of the electromagnet developed by the armature.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2010Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Inventor: Wendell E. Patent number: 8256130Abstract: A way to safely fry turkeys by minimizing the hazard of overfilling oil, the Turkey Frying Oil Gauge (TFOG) comprises a device and method to properly pre-measure the frying oil used to fry whole turkeys. The Turkey Frying Oil Gauge is duel scale selectable for pot diameter and turkey weight. The turkey frying pot rim is measured and the size is selected on the gauge bottom. The mast is then slid out to view the weight of the turkey to be fried. The gauge is then placed in the bottom of the pot and frying oil is placed in the pot to the top of the gauge. The oil gauge is removed, the oil heated and the turkey introduced without overflowing the oil onto the heating flames.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2009Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Inventor: Edward Lee Jantz

Patent number: 8137564Abstract: An apparatus for and method of filtering hydrocarbon contaminated water is disclosed herein. The present invention may be used in drainage openings, particularly in parking lots and containment areas for large sources of hydrocarbons such as oil tanks or electrical transformers, to remove hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon contaminated water. The apparatus has a filtration compartment which filters out debris and sediment which may clog the treatment compartment. A pre-filter attachable to the apparatus may be used to further aid in filtering out sediment. A means for melting snow and ice may be incorporated within the filtration compartment such that liquid flow is not hindered during extreme weather conditions. The treatment compartment contains a hydrocarbon absorption media which absorbs any hydrocarbons present in the water rendering such water substantially hydrocarbon-free for discharge directly into a stream or groundwater.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2002Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: SPI Filtration LLCInventor: William J Gannon

Patent number: 7990007Abstract: An apparatus for transferring torque magnetically with a primary rotary member and a secondary rotary member. The primary rotary member has permanent magnets mounted circumferentially on a cylinder, the secondary rotary member having a cylindrical geometry with electroconductive material arranged on its outer periphery and parallel to the axes of the rotary members. The secondary rotary member also having magnetically permeable material. The secondary rotary member is placed partially or totally inside the primary rotating member. The secondary rotary member's axial position relative to the primary rotating member can be varied by a suitable mechanical structure. This causes the two rotary members to axially overlap one another more or less as desired.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2005Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: Flux Drive, Inc.Inventors: Philip Corbin, III, Robert L. Patent number: 7697248Abstract: In all electrical circuits, various arcing conditions can arise, however, there are primary ones are series arcing (low current arcing), and, parallel arcing (high current arcing). An arc fault circuit interrupter (“AFCI”) that protects for both series and parallel arcing is called a combination type. An AFCI is a device that controls the effects of electrical arcing by opening a circuit through a tripping mechanism that isolates the load from the supply line upon detection of an arcing condition. In this invention, this arc fault is detected by a Hall-Effect sensor (“HES”), a HES integrated circuit, and microprocessor. When circuit fluctuation starts, the microprocessor logs this from its first occurrence then compares it to a pre-determined threshold time to determine an arcing condition. Continued fluctuation beyond this threshold time is considered an arcing condition for safety the microprocessor then executes a command to activate the tripping mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2007Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Inventor: Wendell E. Patent number: 7294947Abstract: An apparatus for transferring torque magnetically with a primary rotary member and a secondary rotary member. The primary rotary member has permanent magnets, the secondary rotary member with electro-conductive materials. The secondary rotary member also having magnetically permeable material. The secondary rotary member is placed partially or totally inside the primary rotating member. This causes the two rotary members to axially overlap one another more or less as desired. Rotation of the primary rotary member causes rotation of the secondary rotary member, since magnetic flux lines emanating from the permanent magnets mounted on the primary rotating member, cut through all, or part of, the electro-conductive material placed on the secondary rotary member. This can vary the torque transmitted between the two rotary members, thereby enabling the varying of the rotational speed of the secondary rotary member relative to the primary rotary member.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2004Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: Flux Drive, Inc.Inventors: Philip Corbin, III, Robert L. Patent number: 7025656Abstract: An apparatus for allowing an individual to simply assemble a transparent cylindrical conduit sectioned track system which guides a self propelled toy vehicle through this track system. A self propelled toy vehicle designed to run securely through transparent cylindrical conduit track prohibiting the toy vehicle from falling off of the track, an easy to assemble the transparent cylindrical sections, and an interlocking structure to ensure the fitting of the track sections are secure enough to remain intact for normal use. A portable means for an individual to carry said self-propelled toy vehicle and the various shaped transparent cylindrical track sections.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2004Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Inventor: Robert J Bailey
