  • Patent number: 7802307
Abstract: A communications apparatus and method is provided to reliably protect communication systems, such as mobile phone systems, from unauthorized use, as well as to make the interception of wireless communication more difficult. Specifically, the static wireless phone number or other similar identifiers are not used for identification and authorization during communication between the mobile unit and a base station. Instead, a set of private identifiers is determined and is known only to the phone company and the base stations controlling the mobile phone calls. These private identifiers allow dynamic and continual updating of the mobile phone and base station directories with current valid identifiers that are used for communication between the devices.

  • Patent number: 7755429
Abstract: A system and method for dynamic adjustment of drain or collector voltage of a power amplifier (PA), including a PA having a voltage input, a temperature sensor measuring ambient temperature of the PA, and an adaptive PA control processor that dynamically changes the input voltage based on the ambient temperature, achieving a desired peak power when the system is subjected to high temperatures. In a further embodiment, a power sensor measures output power of the PA, and the control processor dynamically changes the voltage based on output power when the system serves a large cell in a mobile communication infrastructure employing high power. In a further embodiment, a multistage PA and method include amplifier stages having drain or collector voltage inputs, wherein a voltage applied to the inputs are set so as to be proportional to the peak power requirements of each stage, enhancing overall efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7756635
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for generating and presenting off-road travel routes based on terrain and obstruction analysis. The method includes a Threat Analyzer (100) for assessing threats that may impede progress, a Graph Builder (102) for constructing a graph representing an individual's environment, a Route Generator (104) for generating a route that avoids the threats, and a Route Presenter (106) for guiding the individual along the route. The Threat Analyzer (100) includes an Obstruction Analyzer (202) for detecting obstructions in aerial imagery. The Graph Builder (102) includes a Cost Evaluator (712) that takes into account traversal speeds for individuals across various types of terrain. The Route Presenter (106) overlays the route on aerial imagery and provides real-time guidance as the individual traverses the route.

  • Patent number: 7738573
Abstract: A crest reduction system and method. The inventive system includes a first circuit for suppressing peak amplitudes of an input signal and providing a peak amplitude suppressed signal in response thereto and a second circuit coupled to the first circuit for rejecting intermodulation distortion in the amplitude suppressed signal. In the illustrative implementation, the first circuit is a peak amplitude suppressor having circuitry for computing an amplitude of the input signal and for computing a gain factor for the input signal in response thereto. In the best mode, the gain factor is obtained from a lookup table. The peak amplitude suppressor further includes a multiplier for applying the gain factor to the input signal. In the illustrative embodiment, the second circuit includes a plurality of bandpass filters and a summer for combining the outputs thereof.
