  • Patent number: 7280088
Abstract: Process and device for control of an electron source with matrix structure, regulated by the emitted charge. The invention is applicable to an electron source comprising addressing rows and columns which intersect to define emission areas, the electrons being supplied by the columns. According to this invention, the emission of electrons is triggered by increasing the potential of the columns to a value that will enable preferential emission of unaddressed rows. Then, throughout the emission duration, the potential of columns will be kept equal to this value, while simultaneously making measurements in the columns of the quantity of charges emitted by the pixels in the said columns. Secondly, when the quantity of charges measured on a column reaches a required charge quantity, the potential of this column is switched to a value that will block the emission of electrons. The invention is particularly applicable to flat field emission displays.

  • Patent number: 7280095
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a hierarchical method for generating force feedback effects. In one embodiment, a method comprises receiving a first force contribution associated with a first (e.g., previous) position of a manipulandum; determining a second force contribution associated with a second (e.g., current) position of the manipulandum; and outputting a force signal to an actuator coupled to the manipulandum, such that the actuator renders a feedback force having a sum of the first and second force contributions. The method may further include classifying force effects according to a predetermined “hierarchy” (or “priority”) scheme, whereby the second force contribution is related to “high” priority force effects associated with the second position, and the first force contribution is related to “low” priority force effects associated with the first position.

  • Patent number: 7274693
Abstract: A hardware search engine facility is provided to allow CPU search and update of a Forwarding Table CAM under the control of software running on the CPU. The hardware search engine provides one or more comparand-mask pairs which allow for a match, exclusion or magnitude comparison on specific entry values and/or the option to ignore or “don't care” certain bits of the entry. Control registers may be set in software to specify a start address and stop address in the CAM for the search. An indication of valid or invalid entries may be provided as well. Once the search is initiated by software, the search engine will read the entries sequentially starting from the programmed start address. It will perform a compare using the comparand-mask pair and attempt to identify a match. The locations in the CAM which match the search criteria may be put into a CPU-accessible memory. If the memory fills up before it can be read by the software, the search may be halted until the memory is emptied.

  • Patent number: 7272227
Abstract: Delivery of audiovisual data may be accomplished using a satellite system. The user may have a set-top box connected to a satellite dish and a network connection. An operator server may receive a request for a title from the user via the network connection. The operator server may then determine if the title is in a transmission schedule and add it to the schedule if it is not. The data corresponding to the request may be encrypted using an encryption algorithm, and a corresponding decryption key may be generated. The key may then be forwarded to the user via the network connection. Then, according to the transmission schedule, the database containing the data will forward the data to a transmitter where it is communicated to a satellite in orbit, which then communicates the data to the satellite dish. The data may be stored in the set-top box for later playback.

  • Patent number: 7272649
Abstract: A Max Sessions Server (MSS) automatically detects hardware and communications failures. Upon detection, counters are adjusted accordingly to maintain an accurate count of users or groups of users on a system. A database of unique identifiers for each connection is maintained, where the unique identifier is a concatenation of a Network Access Server (NAS) and the connection's incoming NAS node number. If a user requests permission to log into the system, the MSS first checks the database to determine if the unique identifier is already logged in. If so, then a hardware or communications failure has occurred and the MSS must make the appropriate adjustments to the database and counter. Additionally, the MSS or an authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) server will periodically check to determine if an NAS has ceased communicating over a particular length of time and relay any failures to the MSS.

  • Patent number: 7272609
Abstract: A solution may be provided in which a cache may assign a version to each object that it caches. The version may be saved in a database along with the object. Each time the business logic accesses the cache for a dependent object, such as a read from the bit mask field of the new parent member, the version of the object checked in the cache and its identification may be saved on a dependency list. Once changes to the object are performed, the business logic may issue a commit command. The cache may then verify that the version of each object on the dependency list matches the version that is in the database. If an object on the dependency list either does not exist in the database, or exists with another version, then the transaction may be canceled.

  • Patent number: 7266201
Abstract: A configurable timer may be used for seamless authentication administration. A network administrator may set the timer value. Then the network administrator may begin to update the authentication configuration or key and the timer may begin to count down. While the timer counts down, the network device may still send outgoing packets using the old authentication configuration or key and may begin to authenticate incoming packets using both the old authentication configuration or key and the new authentication configuration or key. Once it expires, the network device may begin to send outgoing packets using just the new authentication configuration or key. The counter may then be reset and counted down again. Once the counter expires a second time, the new authentication configuration or key may be used for both incoming and outgoing packets. Two-timer implementations are also possible.

  • Patent number: 7265750
Abstract: A force feedback interface and method including an actuator in a non-primary axis or degree of freedom. The force feedback interface device is connected to a host computer that implements a host application program or graphical environment. The interface device includes a user manipulatable object, a sensor for detecting movement of the user object, and an actuator to apply output forces to the user object. The actuator outputs a linear force on the user object in non-primary linear axis or degree of freedom that is not used to control a graphical object or entity implemented by the host computer, and movement in the non-primary degree of freedom is preferably not sensed by sensors. The axis extends through the user object, and there are preferably no other actuators in the device, thus allowing the force feedback device to be very cost effective. Force sensations such as a jolt, vibration, a constant force, and a texture force can be output on the user object with the actuator.
