    Abstract: An address is allocated to a host device which is selected to obtain network access from any access point within a given communications system, while maintaining a network bandwidth management scheme that is consistently applied to a user's network bandwidth usage regardless of the access point used by the user. This is accomplished using a communications network having a at least one access point coupled to a first router which is configured to forward packets at a forwarding rate based on a source address contained in each of the packets. A user profile is assigned to each subscriber belonging to an access point. Each user profile includes a pool identifier which corresponds to a forwarding rate used by the router for packets corresponding to the subscriber.

    Abstract: Command authorization may be accomplished using the RADIUS protocol by providing a user profile on the server for each user. This user profile may be transferred to a network device, such as a NAS, when the user initiates a NAS session. It may be stored in a local cache and accessed each time the user attempts to execute a command. The user profile may contain a command set defined by regular expressions which can then be used to determine whether or not the command should be authorized. The command may then be authorized or rejected based on the results of this determination. After the session is completed, the user profile may be purged from the cache. The present invention allows for a dramatic savings in the traffic associated with command authorization and allows command authorization to be accomplished using the RADIUS protocol, which increases flexibility and NAS security.

    Abstract: A method and system are provided for transmitting information from a faster network to a data terminal via a slower network connection. The invention is adapted for use with any Internet access device or terminal, such as an Internet-compatible telephone. A client connects to the Internet via an intermediary software program, known as the Gateway (GW). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the GW executes on a host computer of an ISP's Local Area Network (LAN). The GW thus mediates the data transfer between the Internet, such as the Web, and the client Internet terminal. The GW employs a point-to-point Internet protocol, the Gateway Interface Protocol (GWIP) to communicate with the client over the low-bandwidth link. The invention shifts the entire overhead of the Internet protocol stack to the GW, and does not involve the Internet terminal or the slow link between Internet terminal and GW.

    Abstract: A device measures current magnitude in a conductor coupled to an electrical device and generates a signal comprising a series of pulses having a frequency. The frequency of the series of pulses is responsive to the magnitude of current measured. The device comprises a sensor magnetically linked with the conductor connected to the electrical device. The sensor produces an analog signal in response to the presence of a current within the conductor. A signal conditioner is located proximate to the sensor and is electrically coupled to the sensor so as to receive the analog signal. The signal conditioner produces, in response to the analog signal, a first signal representative of a magnitude of the current. A converter receives and converts the first signal into an output signal that comprises a series of pulses having a frequency. The frequency of the series of pulses is responsive to the magnitude of the current. All the sensor, the signal conditioner, and the converter are located in a single unitary package.
