Abstract: 2,4-Dimethyl-2-phenyl-4-pentenal possesses a strong rose geranium type odor which is especially valuable in perfumery. Compounds of closely related structure do not possess this quality.
Abstract: A process for preparing compounds of the type of sinensal, which is suitable as a flavor-imparting agent of orange aroma, and novel intermediates including those having the general formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R signifies a CH.sub.2 OH, CHO or COOH group and the broken lines present a double bond emanating from C-atom 4, are disclosed.
Abstract: Methods for altering the flavor of foodstuffs and flavoring compositions for foodstuffs by including therein 2-mercaptobenzoic acid and derivatives thereof to produce in the foodstuffs and flavoring compositions a Concord grape flavor.

Abstract: Substituted benzanilides useful as bacteriostatic agents, the benzanilides being characterized by the presence in the aniline moiety of at least one trifluoromethyl group and having the formula: ##SPC1##Wherein:A is selected from the group of H, Cl, Br, CF.sub.3 and C(CH.sub.3).sub.3 ;B is selected from the group of H, Cl, and Br;C is selected from the group of H, and Cl;X is selected from the group of H, Cl, Br, and F; andY is selected from the group of H and CF.sub.3 ;except:When X is Cl, C must be H;when Y is CF.sub.3, B must be H unless A is Cl such thatB can then be either H or Cl; at least one of A, B, C or X having a halide substituent and the positions in the phenyl moieties ortho to the --CO-- and --NH-- are free of substituents.
Abstract: Substituted cinnamanilides are useful as bacteriostatic agents, the cinnamanilides being characterized by the presence in the aniline moiety of at least one fluorine containing substituent and in the cinnamoyl moiety by at least one halogen and having the formula: ##SPC1##Wherein:A,b, and C are selected from the group H, Cl and Br and at least one of them is Cl or Br; X, Y and Z are selected from the group H, CF.sub.3, OCF.sub.3, OCF.sub.2 CHF.sub.2, Cl and Br and at least one of them is CF.sub.3, OCF.sub.3 or OCF.sub.2 CHF.sub.2 ; except:When B, C and Y are all hydrogen, X cannot be hydrogen or bromine.
Abstract: A process for preparing compounds of the type of sinensal, which is suitable as a flavor-imparting agent of orange aroma, and novel intermediates including those having the general formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R signifies a CH.sub.2 OH, CHO or COOH group and the broken lines represent a double bond emanating from C-atom 4, are disclosed.
Abstract: There are provided novel mercapto- or alkylthio-substituted oxo-terpenoids having 10 carbon atoms in the terpenoid skeleton. These novel compounds may be acyclic monocyclic or bicyclic. The novel compounds are useful as odorants particularly, but also for producing aromas, e.g. of a vegetable note.
Abstract: New unsaturated hydrocarbons, process for making same and odorant compositions containing same. The preferred hydrocarbon is 2,7-dimethyl-1,4,6-octatriene. Perfumes, perfumed products such as soaps and cosmetic products are among the products in which the novel hydrocarbons may be used.

Abstract: There is provided a novel method of preparing the highly desired odorant cis-3-hexen-1-ol from alkyl phenyl ethers. The method comprises Birch reduction of the alkyl phenyl ether, sequentially followed by oxidative ring cleavage and reduction.
Abstract: A novel family of compounds, having desirable odorous qualities suitable for use in perfume compositions, is disclosed. These compounds fall within the general formula:A. a compound of the general formula: ##SPC1##WhereinR.sup.1 represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,R.sup.2 is a member selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms and a phenyl group,R.sup.3 is a member selected from the group consisting of H, a methyl group and an ethyl group, andR.sup.4 is a member selected from the group consisting of a CH.sub.2 OH group, a CH.sub.2 OAc group, wherein Ac denotes the acyl residue of a carboxylic acid, a CHO group, and an acetalised CHO group;B. a compound as set forth in (a) above except that R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together represent a member selected from the group consisting of a tetramethylene chain and a pentamethylene chain; andC. a compound selected from the group consisting of a .DELTA..sup.5.sup.
