Abstract: A method of making a platelet releasate product is disclosed involving performing an assay on a platelet releasate sample for a component of the releasate and forming platelet releasate product by comparing the assay results to a predetermined range of amounts of the component to be contained in the product. A method of treatment of tissue is disclosed involving the topical application of such product.

Abstract: A mass transfer device including a hollow fiber bundle wound on a core for radially outward flow of a first fluid. The core has an axis extending from one end to the other. The hollow fiber bundle has packing fractions which increase radially outward of the core's axis for a major portion of the bundle. Methods for making such mass transfer device.

Abstract: A hollow fiber blood oxygenator is provided having an plurality of enclosed, coaxial heat exchanger coils, having a common header to insure uniform temperature in the coils. An enclosed fiber bundle is concentrically positioned inside the heat exchanger coils to define a flow path around the coils and through the fiber bundle. The heat exchanger coils and the outside of the fiber bundle are tapered to provide a close fit. Gas manifolds direct gas flow to and from the hollow fibers.

Abstract: Single-needle extracorporeal plasmapheresis circuit, has a filter in which plasma is separated from the blood with a membrane subject to transmembrane pressure. Two connections to the filter in the blood circuit include one connection of a line to a single needle. An interposed pump is in that line. The other connection has another line to a blood reservoir. A further line connects the plasma side of the filter membrane to a plasma collection bag. Another pump in the further line is controlled by an automatic control means suitable for maintaining the transmembrane pressure in the filter at a value within an optimum range for the entire duration of the plasmapheresis process.
Abstract: A radial flow hollow fiber blood oxygenator is provided. The oxygenator includes a hollow fiber bundle within an oxygenator chamber defined by a hollow core around which the hollow fibers are wound and an outer housing. A gas entry port is coupled to the interior of the fibers adjacent one end of the bundle and a gas outlet is coupled to the interior of the fibers at the opposite end of the bundle. A blood inlet to the core is provided adjacent one end of the bundle, and a blood outlet from the chamber is provided adjacent the same end of the bundle. The direction of blood flow through the chamber is generally radial and the oxygenator includes an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold.

Abstract: The device for selectively drawing samples of blood from two sections of a line and for injecting drugs into the blood comprises a three-way selection element which operates in a seat provided with three connections; the ways are suitable for selectively connecting two of the connections upon manual actuation on the part of an operator. A connection is suitable for receiving a line connected to an arterial blood drawing section; another connection is connected, by means of a duct, to the base of a trap which is open at the top and is suitable for receiving a line connected to a venous blood drawing section; and the third connection comprises a one-way valve allowing flow away from the connection and is connected by means of a duct to the base of a trap which is open at the top and is shaped so as to allow the insertion of a syringe for drawing samples of blood.
Abstract: The invention relates to a blood-treatment device including hollow fibers which are suitable for conveying a fluid and are in a plurality of superposed layers arranged in directions which are offset from layer to layer so as to create a uniform flow of blood from an inlet chamber adjacent one end layer of the plurality of superposed layers to an outlet chamber adjacent the other end layer, the blood passing through the layers in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto and bathing the external surfaces of the hollow fibers.
