  • Patent number: 4013012
Abstract: An electronic safe arming and fuzing (ESAF) system using an accelerometer capable of sensing the acceleration of a missile and supplying an electric signal upon measuring a predetermined level of acceleration. The accelerometer signal is supplied to an electronic timer which upon the receipt of said signal initiates a timing circuit. A predetermined time after receipt of the accelerometer signal the timer causes a high voltage to be stored on a large capacitor. An electronic switch is connected between the capacitor and an exploding bridge wire detonator and will cause the energy stored in the capacitor to pass through the exploding bridge wire (EBW) upon receipt of a proper triggering signal from a trigger means. The EBW detonator is imbedded in a secondary explosive and causes said explosive to detonate without the aid of a primary explosive when said trigger signal is received.
