Patent number: 6432098Abstract: A strong, easy to use tab and slot fastening device suitable for use with disposable absorbent articles. The fastening device preferably includes a tab member and a slot member. The slot member has an inboard portion, an outboard portion and a slot. The inboard portion located laterally inboard of the outboard portion and the slot located between the inboard portion and the outboard portion. The tab member has a length, a proximal edge, a distal edge and a lip portion. The tab portion is passed through the slot of the slot member to engage the fastening device. Once passed through the slot, at least the lip portion of the tab member pivots such that it overlaps the outboard portion of the slot member to prevent the tab member from disengaging from the slot member.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Mark J. Patent number: 6213992Abstract: A disposable garment, such as a diaper, having a liner, an absorbent core and a liquid impervious bottom sheet. Coextensive openings are formed in the liner, bottom sheet and core, and a transparent layer of material overlays the openings to form a window through the openings into the diaper. An opaque, pliable cover is preferably attached to an exterior surface of the bottom sheet so as to overlie the transparent window. The cover includes a layer of adhesive material to enable the cover to be releasably affixed to the window. The cover preferably further includes a tab, the tab and adhesive cooperating to enable the cover to be selectively pulled back to allow for viewing through the transparent layer into the diaper, and then replaced over the opening to conceal the contents of the diaper.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1997Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Kimberly Ann Dreier

Patent number: 6198250Abstract: A battery having a built-in controller is disclosed that extends the run time of the battery. The controller may extend the run time of the battery, for example, by converting the cell voltage to an output voltage that is greater than a cut-off voltage of an electronic device, by converting the cell voltage to an output voltage that is less than the nominal voltage of the electrochemical cell of the battery, or by protecting the electrochemical cell from current peaks. The controller may also include a ground bias circuit that provides a virtual ground so that a converter may operate at lower cell voltages. The battery may be a single-cell battery, a universal single-cell battery, a multiple-cell battery or a multiple-cell hybrid battery.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1998Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Vladimir Gartstein, Dragan Danilo Nebrigic

Patent number: 6194062Abstract: The present invention relates to sheet-like materials suitable for use in the containment and protection of various items, as well as the preservation of perishable materials such as food items. More particularly, the present invention provides an improved storage wrap material comprising a sheet of material having a first side and a second side. The first side comprises an active side exhibiting an adhesion peel force after activation by a user which is greater than an adhesion peel force exhibited prior to activation by a user. The storage wrap material may be activated by different approaches, but in a preferred embodiment the active side is activatible by an externally applied force exerted upon the sheet of material. The force may be an externally applied compressive force exerted in a direction substantially normal to the sheet of material.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1996Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Peter Worthington Hamilton, Kenneth Stephen McGuire

Patent number: 6163131Abstract: A battery having a built-in controller that controls one or more functions of the battery is disclosed. The battery may, for example, control a charge or a discharge cycle of a battery, disconnect an electrochemical cell from the terminals of the battery in an emergency condition, provide electronic identification of cell characteristics or conditions, or provide a low remaining charge warning. The battery may be a single-cell battery, a universal single-cell battery, a multiple-cell battery or a multiple-cell hybrid battery. Each individual cell preferably has a built-in controller.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1998Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Vladimir Gartstein, Dragan Danilo Nebrigic
