  • Patent number: 8350152
Abstract: An electrical box includes a top side wall, a right side wall, a bottom side wall, a left side wall, and a rear side wall. At least one check valve is disposed through at least one of the top side wall, the right side wall, the bottom side wall, the left side wall, or the rear side wall. The check valve defines a central opening through which insulation may be introduced to fill an air gap at least one of behind or around the electrical box. The check valve includes a plurality of flexible fingers extending inwardly from the wall to a predetermined location to define the central opening. • Patent number: 8347095
Abstract: A sending device prepares a key for each electronic message sent by the device by applying an algorithm to specified data in the message and then incorporates the key in the message. A receiving device, upon receipt of an electronic message, locates the incorporated key and the data from which a sending device practicing the invention would have prepared it. The receiving device communicates a confirmation request to the purported sending device which contains the key and the data for its preparation. The sending device receives the confirmation messages and prepares a comparison key by applying the algorithm to the data in the confirmation request. The sending device replies to the confirmation request confirming that the sending device sent the message if the comparison key matches the key in the confirmation request and otherwise responds with a denial.

  • Patent number: 8307845
Abstract: A flow rate controller detects a clogged state of an orifice to prevent errors during flow rate measurement. The flow rate controller includes a differential pressure flow meter, with an orifice disposed between a pair of pressure sensors, that converts a pressure difference detected by the two pressure sensors into a flow rate, a flow-rate adjusting valve whose degree of opening is controlled such that the difference between a measured flow rate value and a preset flow rate value falls within a predetermined range, and a control unit that controls the degree of opening of the flow-rate adjusting valve upon receiving the pressure values detected by the pressure sensors. The control unit compares the preset flow rate value and the measured flow rate value and determines that there is a clog fault when a flow rate difference, as compared with a predetermined value, continues for a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 8264317
Abstract: A protector for a three-phase electric motor has a container with a housing and a metal plate secured thereto. A protrusion is provided in the housing. Three conductive terminal pins, each with a fixed contact, protrude into the housing through the metal plate. A thermally responsive plate is connected to the three moveable contacts. The thermally responsive plate is dish shaped and reverses its direction of curvature at a predetermined temperature. Three moveable contacts are secured to the thermally responsive plate. An elastic member extends between the protrusion and the thermally responsive plate. A rotation member prevents the thermally responsive plate from rotating, thereby maintaining the moveable contacts in opposition to the fixed contacts. The conductive terminal pins are located at a neutral point side of phase windings of a three-phase motor so that AC current flowing into the three-phase motor is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 8256204
Abstract: A power unit for providing propulsive thrust includes an efflux duct defining a first fluid flow path along which gaseous fluid travels for discharge from a first fluid exit opening to provide propulsive thrust. The power unit also has a thrust reversing structure which, when in a deployed position, redirects the flow of gaseous fluid along a second fluid flow path to discharge from a second fluid exit opening to provide reverse thrust. The thrust reversing structure includes longitudinally translating cowl portions, which are moveable from a stowed position to the deployed position where the translating cowl portions block a major portion of the first fluid exit opening to cause gaseous fluid to efflux from the second fluid exit opening. The translating cowl portions move in a generally longitudinal direction towards the deployed position along a path which is inclined to the power unit axis.

  • Patent number: 8249869
Abstract: The method is suitable for dysorthographic or partially sighted persons, to facilitate the semantic, syntactic and/or lexical correction of an erroneous expression in a digital text input by a user. The method comprises the sequence of: a step (74) of transforming the digital text into a digital voice message, in which the graphemes of the erroneous textual expression are converted into phoneme(s) constituting an intelligible vocal expression, then a step (78) of processing the digital voice message obtained at the end of the transformation step (74), in which the phoneme or phonemes constituting the intelligible vocal expression are converted into grapheme(s) constituting a corrected textual expression of the erroneous textual expression, with the aid of pre-established writing rules.

  • Patent number: 8241599
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for improving biomass gasification. By the present invention, volatile organometallics are contacted with a biomass before or during gasification. By this method, the biomass improves gas yields while reducing solid (tar) and liquid yields. In addition, the volatile organometallics interact with lignin in the biomass to produce methanol, which, in turn, results in a stable liquid or oil by-product or otherwise stabilizes the gasification process of the biomass. The presently disclosed method can also lead to increased syngas production and is potentially CO2 neutral. The energy input to the gasification is correspondingly reduced to reduce costs and the environmental impact associated with the gasification process.

  • Patent number: 8223980
Abstract: The invention is a software program which estimates the effect of environmental noise on hearing and acoustic communication in birds and other animals. The calculation uses information about the acoustic characteristics of the environmental noise, the acoustic characteristics of the vocalization or bioacoustic signal, and information about species specific hearing capabilities to provide a quantitative estimate of the impact on auditory perception. The program will operate in two modes. It will make ball park estimates of noise and signal transmission through a particular type of environment for its calculations of audibility. Or, it will take as input, estimates of the noise and the signal at the bird as generated from existing commercial software and use these estimates in the calculation of audibility.

  • Patent number: 8219630
Abstract: A sending device locates and stores identifying information for each electronic message sent by the device. A receiving device, upon receipt of an electronic message, locates identifying information for the electronic message and the purported sending device of the message. The receiving device communicates a confirmation request to the purported sending device which contains identifying information for the message. The sending device receives confirmation messages and replies to such messages confirming that the message was sent if identifying information in the confirmation request corresponds to identifying information stored by the sending device and denying that the message was sent if the identifying information in the confirmation request does not correspond to stored data.

  • Patent number: 8182175
Abstract: A marine gate includes a gate member submersible in a body of water. At least a first post and a second post support the gate member. The gate member is slidably secured on the first and second posts so that the gate member is movable between first and second locations above and below the waterline. The marine gate includes a winch, a cable extending from the winch to the gate member, and an optic fiber net attached at least to the gate member and extending to the sea floor, thereby establishing an underwater fence. Operation of the winch alters a length of the cable, thereby permitting the gate member to be raised to a closed position and to be lowered to an opened position such that a vessel may pass through the gate when the gate member is in the opened position.

  • Patent number: 8154237
Abstract: A sealed electric compressor having a normally-off type pressure switch and a fuse element. The pressure switch is placed in a sealed housing, connected parallel to a main winding of an electric motor, and, when the pressure of refrigerant in the sealed housing is abnormally high, activates to short-circuit the main winding. The fuse element is connected in series to the main winding and an auxiliary winding of the electric motor and interrupts conduction of electricity to the electric motor when an excess current that is produced when the pressure switch short-circuits the main winding flows.
