  • Patent number: 4423516
Abstract: A furnace producing a precisely controlled temperature gradient within a central bore by a plurality of heating elements sandwiched between respective insulating layers with each heating element loosely thermally coupled to a thermally conductive ring extending concentrically outward from the furnace bore. Thermal sensors at each layer provide data to data processing equipment which controls and moves temperature gradients within the furnace by program.

  • Patent number: 4366454
Abstract: Microwave phase modulators are described utilizing three or more hybrid junctions, two of which are phase quadrature hybrids each having one pair of conjugate terminals terminated with switching means and each having one of the remaining terminals connected to a respective terminal of a third hybrid junction. With power in at a third terminal of the third hybrid junction, power out at the 4th terminal of the third hybrid junction can be selectively shifted 180.degree. or switched off by operation of the switching means. Broad band operation is achieved and reflections by the switching means do not have to have a precise phase tolerance as long as they are similar.

  • Patent number: 4314670
Abstract: A method of atomization control and related gas atomizing nozzles are described which enable variation of the degree of atomization, the liquid and gas flow rates and the atmospheric spray dilution. Varying the thickness of flowing liquid and adjacent atomizing gas sheets varies spray droplet size and atmospheric spray dilution. Transverse sheet size is varied to change nozzle capacity. Annular and linear sheet forming nozzles are described. Nozzles are also described with flexible divider walls whereby thickness of the flowing sheets may be varied by altering relative flow pressures.
