  • Patent number: 7534138
Abstract: A shield terminal engageable with a shield of an electrical cable includes a first member having a first contact surface inclined at an acute angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the terminal and a second member having a second contact surface inclined at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the terminal. When the shield terminal is attached to the shield the first and second contact surfaces engage the shield. The second contact surface of the second member is disposed adjacent the first contact surface of the first member. A distance between the second contact surface and the first contact surface is less than a thickness of the shield.

  • Patent number: 7534017
Abstract: An illumination system for a vehicle is provided and includes a plurality of illumination units each having at least one light emitting diode attached thereto. A plurality of electrical leads connect the plurality of illumination units. The plurality of illumination units and the plurality of electrical leads are interconnected to define an illumination circuit that is embedded within at least one vehicle structure. Light emitted by at least one of the illumination units is guided from within the at least one vehicle structure to illuminate a vehicle interior.

  • Patent number: 7530422
Abstract: A steering system with reduced coupling between a position overlay unit and a torque overlay unit may include a remote valve assembly for controlling a hydraulic assist force or an electric motor for providing torque overlay and electric assist to a rack of a rack and pinion steering system. In one embodiment, the position overlay unit may provide the assist force and the torque overlay unit may provide a motor command signal to the motor of a differential positioned on a steering shaft. In another embodiment, the position overlay unit may provide the motor command signal and the torque overlay unit may provide the assist force. In either embodiment, the position overlay unit may include variable ratio gain that uses a position signal to output a variable ratio command.

  • Patent number: 7530227
Abstract: A brake apply master cylinder includes a body and a piston assembly. The body includes a bore. The bore has a longitudinal axis, a closed front end, a primary fluid outlet fluidly connectable to a primary brake circuit, and a secondary fluid outlet fluidly connectable to a secondary brake circuit. The piston assembly includes a single brake apply piston positioned in the bore. The piston assembly fluidly divides the bore into a primary fluid chamber in fluid communication with the primary fluid outlet and a secondary fluid chamber in fluid communication with the secondary fluid outlet. Another brake apply master cylinder includes a body, a piston assembly, and a return spring assembly. The return spring assembly is positioned in the bore of the body and extends from the closed front end of the bore to a return-spring seat of a single brake apply piston of the piston assembly.

  • Patent number: 7523806
Abstract: A method for generating an active damping torque signal for a vehicle steering system includes receiving a vehicle speed input, receiving a handwheel velocity input, receiving a handwheel torque input, and generating an active damping torque output from each of the inputs, wherein the active damping torque output is non-linear with respect to the handwheel velocity input.

  • Patent number: 7523728
Abstract: A phaser for controlling the timing between a camshaft and a timing gear having a rotor with at least one vane and a stator with at least one recess the phaser allowing limited rotational movement of the rotor with respect to the stator. The vane divides the recess into first and second pockets, wherein the introduction of a fluid into the first pocket causes the rotor to move in a first rotational direction relative to the stator, and in that the introduction of a fluid in the second pocket causes the rotor to move in the opposite rotational direction. A control ring is provided for selectively opening and closing a fluid connection between the pockets to allow fluid to flow between the pockets using the pressure difference of the fluid in each of the pockets to transport the fluid from the one to the other pocket.

  • Patent number: 7526359
Abstract: Methods, manufactured parts, and computer programs for horizontally structured manufacturing. A blank is selected for machining into an actual part, and a coordinate system is established. A plurality of process bodies are created in a single file. Each process body includes a virtual blank corresponding to said blank and a plurality of manufacturing features. A virtual machining of each manufacturing feature of the plurality of manufacturing features into the virtual blank is implemented. Each manufacturing feature exhibits an associative relationship with the coordinate system. Manufacturing instructions are generated to create the actual part by machining the plurality of manufacturing features into the blank.

  • Patent number: 7516682
Abstract: The invention provides a steering column assembly having a steering column jacket operable to support a steering shaft. The steering column assembly also includes a collar presenting a surface for guiding movement of the steering column jacket. The steering column assembly also includes a locking member operable to move in a first direction from an unlocked position to a locked position to increasingly urge the steering column jacket and the surface of the collar together to lock relative movement between the steering column jacket and the collar. The steering column assembly also includes a shaft operable to rotate in a first angular direction about a first axis to move the locking member in the first direction. The steering column assembly also includes a crank extending radially outwardly from the shaft. The steering column assembly also includes a lever operable to rotate in a second angular direction about a second axis spaced from the first axis.
