  • Patent number: 5347409
Abstract: A device for fast-forwarding and rewinding a tape includes a base plate supporting a fast-forward and rewind switch. Actuation of the switches rotates a reverse plate. A base plate with forward and reverse operating positions moves the reverse plate between first and second axes of rotation. A switching arm having an idler gear is selectively engageable between a forward and reverse drive system which winds a tape at high speeds. If the device is in a forward mode of operation, the switching arm rotates in the same direction as the reverse plate. If the device is in a reverse mode, the switching arm rotates in a direction opposite the reverse plate.

  • Patent number: 5346059
Abstract: A conveyor belt which traverses a belt transport course that can include course turns wherein the belt traverses an arcuate path comprises a succession of link members formed as individual modules having a center body part and unitary forwardly and rearwardly facing finger sets at each of two opposite sides of the center body part. In traversing a turn, the belt shortens at a first side and lengthens at an opposite side. During a turn, tractive drive transmission for pulling a link member with a next preceding link member by way of a connecting rod passing through the two link members, the connecting rod being in tractive relationship with the rearwardly facing fingers of the preceding link member at only two locations, viz., at the rearwardly facing finger thereof most proximal the belt opposite edge, and at the rearwardly facing finger first alongside the preceding link member center body part at the side of the conveyor belt first edge.

  • Patent number: 5339749
Abstract: First and second sliding bodies are guided along a first axis on linear guide rails. A linkage connects a table to the first and second sliding bodies. The linkage moves the table parallel to the linear guide rails when the first and second sliding bodies are displaced the same distance. The linkage moves the table perpendicular to the linear guide rails when one of the sliding bodies is moved a different distance from the first sliding body. The perpendicular distance can be either the Z axis or the Y axis.

  • Patent number: 5340891
Abstract: Polymer particles having a small particle diameter and a narrow particle diameter distribution are obtained by a continuous polymerization method which does not accompany an increase of cohering products attaching to an inner face of a reaction vessel and an air-bubble invasion and, in which stirring of a material solution for polymerization is easy. An emulsion polymerization reaction or a suspension polymerization reaction is carried out by supplying a material solution for polymerization continuously to a clearance between coaxial double cylinders, which have stretched toward a direction crossing a horizontal plane, from the end side of the cylinders, by rotating at least one of the double cylinders round the axis and thereby, causing Taylor vortices. The polymer particles thus-formed are obtained by through the other end side of the double cylinders to the outside.

  • Patent number: 5339068
Abstract: A chip-type ceramic element contains a terminal electrode at each end and an inorganic insulating layer on the surface of the ceramic element between the electrodes. The terminal electrodes include a baked electrode formed from a conductive paste reacted with the material of the inorganic insulating layer. Layers of nickel and tin are plated on the baked electrode for improved heat resistance and soldering adhesion, respectively. The insulating layer prevents unwanted portions of the terminal electrodes from coming into contact with the ceramic element, thereby preventing dispersion in the resistance values of the element.

  • Patent number: 5339123
Abstract: An optical piece for a data imprinting device for a camera having beam incident and beam emerging areas. Beam incident and beam emerging areas have an effective aperture for passing a main beam of light and a peripheral beam refracting surface around and defining the effective aperture. This structure eliminates ghosts or flares generated by light rays passing through the peripheral portion of the optical piece. The peripheral beam refracting surface is equivalent to the surface of a lens having a negative index of refraction or one of the bilateral plane surfaces of a triangular prism with its apex pointing toward the optical axis of the optical piece. The lens geometry is controlled by a set of four inequalities. The effective aperture may use convex, planar or concave shapes.

  • Patent number: 5334130
Abstract: A vial holding a material such as an organic liquid-containing biological specimen is received in the receptor of a holder assembly, the assembly further including a centrifugal valve. The holder is mounted on a rotor in a centrifugal vacuum concentrator and the specimen is then subjected to a treatment such as drying in the vacuum chamber. Vapor from the drying vents into the concentrator vacuum chamber, the centrifugal valve which is a normally closed component opens due to imposition thereon of centrifugal force created during and attending rotor speed above a certain RPM. At completion of the treatment and before the rotor falls from its certain RPM, a dried material protective gas blanket can be flowed into the vial, the valve closing to seal the vial and protected contents when RPM of the rotor falls below the certain RPM.

  • Patent number: 5335042
Abstract: A camera, having a motion compensation device, permits the user to select one of two modes of operations using a selector switch. Partial depression of a shutter release button initiates exposure and auto-focus routines while complete depression actuates an exposure routine effecting a shutter release. A first mode of operation enables the motion compensation device and prevents or delays an exposure from being executed if a motion level of the camera is outside a maximum range of compensation. A second mode of operation permits an exposure to be executed regardless of whether the camera motion level is outside of the maximum range of compensation, thus allowing events to be rapidly photographed on-demand. A first embodiment of the first mode of operation calculates exposure and focus parameters and then repetitively monitors the motion level until the motion level is within the maximum range of compensation and the exposure is executed.

  • Patent number: 5334892
Abstract: A positioning device has a shuttle slidably and rotatably supported above a base assembly. A first linear motor moves the shuttle linearly in a first direction while the second and third linear motors move the shuttle linearly in a second direction, normal to the first direction. The second and third linear motors are separated along an axis in the first direction. The linear motors have magnetic arrays including rows of magnets or a checkerboard array of magnets and provide continuously variable positioning. Rotary movement of the shuttle is achieved by operating the second and third linear motors in opposing directions or at differing rates. The positions of three points on the shuttle are determined by three optical encoders, or three interferometers, whose signals provide feedback to a controller which actuates the linear motors accordingly.
