Abstract: The operation of a fluid catalytic cracking unit having a regenerator designed to completely combust carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide thermally is improved by circulating a trace amount of at least one metal of the group consisting of platinum, palladium, iridium, osmium, rhodium, ruthenium and rhenium with the circulating inventory of solid acidic cracking catalyst.
Abstract: Stable gasoline-alcohol fuel mixtures are produced by hydration of a gasoline or a fraction thereof high in olefins in the presence of an acid catalyst to form a high alcohol content gasoline mixture, which mixture is blended with a gasoline containing up to about 20 volume percent of methanol. The addition of the catalytically hydrated gasoline or olefinic fraction thereof serves to maintain the methanol in complete solution at low temperatures, particularly in the presence of water contaminant.

Abstract: A metal combustion promoter is introduced into the circulating inventory of catalyst in the catalytic cracking process to temporarily change the operating mode of the regenerator and decrease the CO content of the flue gas, thus permitting temporary shutdown of the CO-boiler or CO-incinerator, while continuing operation of the catalytic cracking process. The metal combustion promoters are compounds of platinum, iridium, osmium, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, or rhenium. The described technique permits rapid shutdown and minimizes the time of operation outside of compliance with local or other ordinances.
