  • Patent number: 4178225
Abstract: A cathode busbar structure is provided for an electrolytic cell which can enable the electrolytic cell to be designed to operate as a chlor-alkali diaphragm cell at high current capacities of about 150,000 amperes and upward to about 200,00 amperes while maintaining high operating efficiencies while in normal or jumpered operation. These high current capacities provide for high production capacities which result in high production rates for given cell room floor areas and reduce capital investment and operating costs.

  • Patent number: 4132622
Abstract: A hollow bipolar electrode is provided which comprises an anode member and a cathode member. Each member has a base structure and a plurality of removably attached blades or plates extending from the active surfaces of the base structures. The blades or plates are arranged to intermesh when the elctrodes are arranged in a cell. In a preferred embodiment the blades are comprised of a plurality of nested U-shaped sheets.

  • Patent number: 4121994
Abstract: A technique for affixing anode support rods to the wall of a chlor-alkali type of electrolytic cell, wherein the support rod is positioned and affixed to the cell wall through a welding operation providing a leak proof seal and electrical contact, as well as providing for its easy removal and replacement for maintenance purposes.

  • Patent number: 4120773
Abstract: An electrode assembly for an electrolysis cell is provided comprising at least two opposed electrode working faces, and placing between the working faces a resilient, compressible member against which compression of the electrode takes place during its insertion into the cell. Upon inserting said electrode assembly into a smaller opening within the cell, which opening is defined by the adjacent electrodes, compression of the resilient, compressible elastic member through insertion of the electrode assembly into the opening takes place and automatically guides the assembly such that its working faces are correctly positioned relative to the adjacent electrodes. The degree of compression of each electrode assembly is determined by spacer assembly guides or appendages mounted on the electrode face. These guides determine the gap between the electrode face and adjacent electrodes.
