Abstract: A ported connecting tube is interposed between the gas delivery hose of an anesthesia gas delivery machine and the outlet of an endotracheal tube. One end of a flexible conduit is inserted into the port in the connecting tube and the other end is connected to a breath alcohol meter thereby placing the sampling chamber of the meter in flow registration with the endotracheal tube. During operative hysteroscopy, a refrigerated solution containing, optimally 1% Ethanol is used to irrigate the surgery site, and the patient's expired breath is periodically sampled to determine the presence and quantity of ethanol therein. The presence of ethanol indicates systemic absorption of the irrigation fluid by the patient, which absorption may cause undesirable operative and post operative complications in the patient.
Abstract: A means and method for constant, timed-release, automatic dispersion of liquid fertilizer into the soil surrounding the roots of potted plants consisting of a bottle which is pre-filled with liquid plant nutrient material or plant fertilizer. The bottle is sealed with a cap which has an indentation or score line to facilitate breaking off the end of the cap to reveal a capillary tube which provides a flow passage from the bottle and through the cap. After the end of the cap is sheared off, the bottle unit is inverted and pushed into the soil adjacent the roots of the potted plant thereby enabling the flow of plant nutrient material or plant fertilizer into the soil for absorption by the plant.
Abstract: A safety system including a surface controlled subsurface safety valves for use in a well having annulus fluid flow. One of the safety valves has a valve closure member, and a small diameter offset piston actuator to move the valve closure member in response to control fluid pressure conducted from the well surface to its open position which allows annulus fluid flow. A spring biases the valve closure member to block annulus fluid flow. The annulus safety valve has an enlarged flow area for use in high volume gas injection wells. The annulus safety valve has metal-to-metal sealing systems to improve valve life under harsh downhole well environments.
Abstract: An isolation valve for a downhole well completion system having a one piece frangible, ceramic sealing element and an extrusion resistant resiliently faced valve seat and a method for the use thereof is presented. Said sealing element is biased to the closed position and rotatable within a sealing element chamber from an open position during run in to a closed position as a result of the withdrawal of a wash pipe and a protector tube from the valve bore. Said frangible sealing element cooperates with said extrusion resistant valve seat to provide a reliable pressure resistant seal. After recovery of completion fluids from the well bore and pressure testing of the production string, the frangible sealing element is shattered by impacting with a tooth-faced blind box hammer.

Abstract: An earth well completion apparatus and method wherein a work string equipped for jet washing downhole filtration devices, such as well screens and for back washing said downhole filtration devices and containing multiple ball catcher subs which utilize the same drop ball to prevent the inadvertent operation of hydraulically powered tools as well as to permanently valve closed a portion of said work string is concentrically disposed in a production string and run in said well simultaneously. Said ball catcher sub which prevents the inadvertent actuation of said hydraulically operated tools is contained within the main fluid bore of said work string and has an expellable inner collar with an outwardly biased catcher ring which, when expelled, shears hollow shearable means thereby actuating said tool.
Abstract: A heat releasable weldment for a mechanical opening jack used in combination with fluid powered valve actuators to release said manual opening jack in the event of fire comprising grooved inner and outer members which cooperate to form a eutectic chamber, said inner and said outer members being retained in spaced relationship with each other by horizontal and vertical restraining members in cooperation with a fusable eutectic alloy which is poured into said eutectic chamber and allowed to solidify together and a method to field retrofit said weldment to a mechanical opening jack is presented.
