  • Patent number: 4436487
Abstract: A system for supplying foam liquid concentrate via a concentrate pump to one or more water pump discharge outlets. The concentrate pump is powered by a variable output hydraulic drive which in turn is automatically modulated independently of the level of operation of the water pump by a control system which is responsive both to the water pressure developed by the water pump and to the foam liquid concentrate pressure developed by the concentrate pump.

  • Patent number: 4435998
Abstract: A ring roller is mounted on an input shaft by a left-hand thread so that when the shaft is rotated in the clockwise direction the sun roller tends to unscrew along the shaft. The sun roller thus drives planet rollers axially along the shafts on which they are rotatably supported into a ring roller which is mounted on an output shaft by a left-hand thread so that it tends, upon being driven in a counter-clockwise direction by the planet rollers, to screw onto the output shaft. The axial movement of the sun roller ceases upon a suitable preloading between the sun, planet and ring rollers' being established.

  • Patent number: 4434776
Abstract: An EGR system has two vacuum modulation valves, one responsive to venturi vacuum and "EGR" pressure (which prevails just upstream of the EGR flow control valve) and the other responsive to venturi vacuum and induction vacuum. The first valve predominately dilutes the vacuum operating the EGR flow control valve during heavy load operation while the second valve predominately dilutes said vacuum during light load and/or high speed operation. With this combination, excessive EGR is avoided during said light load and high speed operations, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4432298
Abstract: A hydrofoil sailboat comprises forward and aft surface piercing hydrofoils and an asymmetrical wingsail. Both hydrofoils have an inverted arch configuration and have a cross-section which is approximately a circular segment. The wingsail has a reversible asymetry, is carried on a cantilevered rotatable mast and includes a sail sock that is highly tensioned between a single top frame member and a bisectional articulated bottom frame member, the asymmetry of the wingsail being defined by the relative position of the bottom frame member sections.

  • Patent number: 4432260
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the feeding of a bandsaw blade in a horizontal bandsaw machine so that the bandsaw blade operates at a uniform optimum cutting rate. The cutting rate of the bandsaw blade is maintained constant by controlling the feeding speed of the blade into material being cut as a function of (1) the cross-sectional cut length at a time interval and (2) the feeding position of the bandsaw blade into the material.

  • Patent number: 4432328
Abstract: A fuel return passage is provided between the fuel tank and the float chamber of a carburetor and arranged such that when the temperature of fuel upstream of the float chamber is higher than a predetermined value, the heated fuel in which vapor bubbles are contained is forcedly returned via the return passage to the fuel tank thereby preventing the carburetor from being supplied with such heated fuel.

  • Patent number: 4428574
Abstract: In a paper delivery apparatus of the type wherein printed paper is cut into sections having a predetermined length and cut papers are delivered in the horizontal direction to be horizontally laminated on a pedestal, there are provided delivered paper guide belts with their lower runs running in a direction of paper delivery and a rotating brush roller provided at one end of the delivered paper guide belts. The rotating brush roller is implanted with a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart bristle bundles and rotated in a direction to press down the delivered paper onto the pedestal. According to this invention, it is not only possible to cause the papers to fall down while maintaining them at an horizontal attitude but also to eliminate curls formed at the ends of the delivered papers, thus neatly aligning the ends of the laminated papers.

  • Patent number: 4427321
Abstract: A longwall mineral mining installation has a conveyor and a plurality of roof support units positioned side-by-side on the goaf side of the conveyor. Each roof support unit has a roof shield having an advanceable shield extension. Each unit has a first hydraulic ram for extending its shield extension, and a second hydraulic ram for advancing the conveyor. The extension of each first ram is controlled in dependence upon the retraction of one of the second rams (either the second ram of the same unit or that of an adjacent unit). This control is effected by controlling the supply of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the first rams. In one embodiment this is carried out by a control valve which has a spring-loaded plunger which engages with a series of equispaced cams on the movable cylinder of the associated second ram. In another embodiment, the piston rods of the rams are provided with series of equispaced magnets.

  • Patent number: 4422807
Abstract: A mine roof support has hydraulic props mounted between a floor sill and a roof bar which can be raised and lowered by extension and retraction of the props. A goaf shield is pivotably connected to the rear of the roof bar and is linked via levers to the floor sill. A hydraulic piston and cylinder unit is connected between the roof bar and the goaf shield. Apparatus serves to prevent damage to the support components, and especially to the unit which could be extended beyond its full stroke when the props are retracted to bring the goaf shield and the roof bar more or less into alignment. The protective apparatus is composed of a compact valve device operated by a member, such as a cam, to block the props from hydraulic pressure when the goaf shield and the roof bar assume a pre-determined angular disposition. Both the valve device and its operating member are disposed in a protected position within chambers formed inside the roof bar and the goaf shield adjacent the pivot connection therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4422724
Abstract: A rear view mirror arrangement including a mirror housing mounted on the vehicle side door with face to face contact. The mirror housing is retained in a position laterally protruding from the vehicle side door by spring force provided by a spring positioned between the mirror housing and the vehicle side door. The spring force permits the mirror housing to temporarily displace from the vehicle side door in response to an impact applied to the mirror housing in order to absorb the impact. The mirror arrangement has a mirror angle adjustment lever capable of adjusting the mirror angle in both vertical and horizontal directions. The mirror angle adjustment lever is releasably connected to the mirror permitting the displacement of the mirror housing with respect to the vehicle side door when the impact is received by the mirror housing.

  • Patent number: 4420864
Abstract: A bolt type lock puller for removing jammed bolt type locks from lock housings. This lock puller is necessary to correct situations in which a thief has tried to open a bolt type lock by driving a nail into the keyhole. The lock is usually distorted by the nail and jams in the locked position. Therefore, the lock cannot be removed by a security key. The lock puller utilizes split jaws with opposed teeth which progressively bite the head of the lock. A longitudinally extending stud is drawn axially to cause the split jaws to pull the clamped lock out of the lock housing.
