Abstract: An insole for footwear that is capable of providing a protective layer between a plantar surface of a human foot and an upper surface of a sole of the footwear. The insole can have a first portion positioned in a rearfoot region of the insole and a second portion positioned at a forefoot portion of the insole, wherein the second portion can be more flexible than the first portion. The insole may further include a toe piece positioned in a toe region of the insole and a footbed that overlays the first portion of the insole, the second portion of the insole, and the toe piece of the insole.

Abstract: A carrier (10, 40, 60) is disclosed which has a device (22) that can be an audio device to deliver a message when the carrier is opened, or warn of the presence of an object in the carrier. The message delivered can be informational or an advertisement. The device (22) can deliver a visual message as by lighting LEDs, presenting a scrolling message or projection. The message can be an audio/visual message. A message, such as an advertisement, can be molded into the carrier itself.
Abstract: A drill head has a domed leading face and carries cutting teeth. A tubular drill string can be used to drive the head into the ground. An off-center aperture communicates with the bore of the string, by means of a connecting passage, which defines an oblique cone. During drilling, a flushing medium can be pumped down the bore and out through the aperture. As the drill string and head are withdrawn, an elongate member can be introduced down the bore, out through the aperture, to be left in the passage drilled by the head. The form of the mouths and connecting passage avoid the elongate member encountering any discontinuities which would prevent it leaving the head. The elongate member could be reinforcing bar for a cast-in-situ pile, or part of a ground loop for a ground heat energy system.
Abstract: An apparatus (10) is disclosed for testing a receiver (18). The apparatus (10) includes a digitally controlled attenuator (30) and controls, including a programmable logic device (38), to control both the final value of attenuation and the rate of change of attenuation from the initial attenuation value in the attenuator (30) to the final value of attenuation. Both the final value of attenuation and the rate of change of attenuation can be selected by the operator on the control panel (20) with attenuation select switches (22) and rate select switch (26). Alternatively, the attenuation can be input with an attenuation control knob (28). A digital display (24) displays the attenuation. The apparatus (10) can be remotely controlled with a GPIB control.
Abstract: An expandable folder (10) is disclosed for holding reports. The folder (10) is formed of a single sheet of material (12). The folder (10) includes a back (14), a front (20), two sides (16, 18) and a flap (22). The sides (16, 18) are folded inwardly and the front (20) is folded upwardly to form a pocket. Tabs (68, 70) on the front fit into slots (58, 60) in the sides (16, 18) to hold the folder together. Two label sections (label section (82) and back (14)) are provided to allow the folder to be marked with identifying information.

Abstract: A wall adapter system (10) having a wall adapter (12) is disclosed. The wall adapter (12) permits a mullion (16) to be secured to a wall (14) through the wall adapter (12) without the need for trimming or caulking. The wall adapter (12) has a front portion (26) with a mullion snap interlock (56) and first and second side portions (28, 30) with snap cover trim interlocks (68). The mullion (16) is snap fit on the front portion at the interlock (56) while cover trim (70) are snap fit on the side portions (28, 30) at the snap cover trim interlocks (68). The front portion (26) can be formed into parts, a main portion (104) and an adjustment portion (106) which allows the wall adapter to be mounted to a range of wall thicknesses. The wall adapter (12) can be used with a block header (150).
Abstract: A safety device (12) is disclosed for use in a hydraulic pump system (10). The device includes a generator (20) mounted between the power take off (14) and the hydraulic pump (24). Any time the hydraulic pump (24) is operated by the pto shaft (18) of the power take off (14), the generator is also powered to generate power to operate an audible alarm (28) such as a horn, siren or bell to warn the operator of pump operation. In a second embodiment, hydraulic pump system (100) uses a standard, readily available alternator (102) to generate power to operate the audible alarm (28). A selector valve (202) can be positioned between the pump (24) and lift cylinder to divert hydraulic fluid to a reservoir if the pump is inadvertently activated. The selector valve (202) can be operated manually by the driver when the vehicle is about to be put in motion by operating a control valve (212) or automatically by sensing vehicle motion, such as done by sensors in an ABS brake control.
Abstract: A fluid-tight carrier (10) is disclosed which has main latches (34 and 36). Each main latch has a safety latch (70) which secures the main latches within the latched position until an operator deflects the safety latch (70) away from the slidable catch (42) to permit the main latch to be moved to the unlatched position. This prevents inadvertent opening of the carrier due to impact on the carrier. The carrier can be formed of anti-microbial material, have removable wear strips and includes an ergonomic design.

Abstract: A food storage and preparation device (10, 50, 100, 200) is provided for more rapidly cooling or heating a mass of food or other product contained within a storage pan. The device includes a plurality of air contact fins (20) which rapidly convey heat to and from the ambient surrounding air and a plurality of food contact fins (22, 56, 106) which are inserted within the mass of food to increase the surface area of the food exposed to a heat transfer surface to more rapidly transfer heat to or from the mass of food.

Abstract: A well (12) outside of a brine tank (10) is provided which provides better accessibility to the brine refill valve (112) or other components within the well. Also, apertures (42–48) of differing elevations above the bottom of the brine tank can communicate between the brine tank and the well (12). Selected ones of the apertures can be plugged to select the quantity of water which can be removed and refilled in the brine tank.
