  • Patent number: 6089453
Abstract: A product information display system has electronic display tags for displaying pricing and product information for products in stores or warehouses. The electronic display tags are electromagnetically coupled to a conductor. A control circuit is used to generate an information signal which contains a tag address and related data. A modulator circuit modulates an ac power signal with the information signal and applies it to the conductor for transmission to the display tags. Each of the display tags is equipped with a coil that is electromagnetically coupled to the conductor for picking up the signals carried by the conductor. A demodulator is used to demodulate the signal picked up by the coil to obtain the original information signal. Each of the display tags is provided with a manually operated switch for initializing the tags with initial addresses transmitted by the conductor.

  • Patent number: 6079864
Abstract: A fluid mixing system including a liquid mixing device and method for generating and maintaining a substantially uniform, horizontal velocity profile in a liquid circulation system, such as a plug flow reactor, which requires less horsepower than conventional liquid mixing systems without losing mixing effectiveness. The liquid mixing device employs a top-entry, vertically-oriented impeller and a housing that directs the pumped flow in a generally horizontal direction. The liquid mixing module may be positioned in close proximity to an aeration source within a channel.

  • Patent number: 6079528
Abstract: The invention is a binder or portfolio for carrying looseleaf paper, books, school supplies, etc. wherein the binder includes a split gusset that is attached to the front and back covers of the binder. The gusset is secured into the binder in a manner such that it is biased outwardly of the binder when the binder is opened, thereby facilitating insertion or removal of items from the binder.

  • Patent number: 6076409
Abstract: Media compatible packages for pressure sensing devices include molded polymeric housings and diaphragms which mount and isolate pressure sensing devices in operative contact with any type of corrosive or non-corrosive media for pressure measurement. The various pressure sensor package housings include a main cavity in which a pressure sensor is mounted, a polymeric diaphragm bonded to the housing within the main cavity, at least one media port which leads to a pressure port on one side of the diaphragm, and a pressure transfer cavity on an opposite side of the diaphragm in which a pressure sensor is located. A fill port through a wall of the housing between the diaphragm and the pressure sensor allows the pressure transfer cavity to be filled with a pressure transfer medium such as oil and then sealed, without introducing any excess pressure. The use of bondable polymers to form the housing and thin film diaphragms provides excellent media compatibility for pressure measurements in corrosive environments.

  • Patent number: 6073482
Abstract: Microfluidic analyzers are used to sense a plurality of analytes in whole blood, diluted blood, plasma or serum. Additionally in the rapidly growing fields of cell culture growth and fermentation, it is often necessary to measure glucose, glutamine, lactate, NH3, phosphate and iron in micro-scale fluid flow analysis systems. The present application is directed to a fluid flow module that allows for analyte sample flow therethrough while providing a site for the location of a sensing element or elements therein to detect analyte presence and/or concentration. The module is designed for microfluidic flow rates and volumes and can be discarded after use with simple replacement by another module.

  • Patent number: 6075653
Abstract: A projecting zoom lens system whose incidence side is telecentric of this invention is formed by the first to fourth lens groups arranged sequentially from the screen side and having negative, positive, negative and positive refractive powers, respectively. The employment of the negative refractive power lens group on the screen side allows a wider angle and a smaller lens aperture of the first lens group, thereby realizing a compact lens with a larger aperture as a whole. Furthermore, if a positive lens is employed on the screen side in the first lens group of the projecting zoom lens, the balance of refractive power can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6058793
Abstract: A speed reducer for a mixing apparatus having a gear train mounted within a housing such that the output shaft is supported by upper and lower bearings mounted within the upper portion and base of the housing, respectively. The lower output shaft bearing preferably is mounted within a recess in the underside of the housing base below a dry well containing the output shaft. The dry well forms a lubricant sump within the housing and preferably is unitary with the housing base. By placing the output shaft bearing below the dry well in the base of the housing, the diameter of the bearing can be increased to bear larger loads without being restricted by the dry well and is better able to transmit bending and radial loads to a relatively massive portion of the housing, and is placed closer to the load, thereby minimizing the amount of unsupported output shaft projecting from the reducer.
