Patent number: 6327478Abstract: A method of and system for processing calls to a wireless unit determines if the wireless unit is in a “page-only” mode or otherwise unavailable to receive the call. If said wireless unit is unavailable to receive the call, system determines if the calling party would like to send a page to the wireless unit. If so, the system sends a short message to the wireless unit. The short message identifies the calling party and provides an option to receive the call. When the wireless unit receives the short message page, the called party can elect to receive the call by sending short message response to the system. When the system receives the short message response, the system completes the call to said wireless unit if the short message response indicates selection of the option to receive the call.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1998Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: Northern Telecom, Ltd.Inventor: Steven F. Patent number: 6281440Abstract: A decorative article for mounting about a wall mounted electrical cover plate of a switch or receptacle includes a frame having an inner periphery smaller than the cover plate and an outer periphery larger than the cover plate. The inner periphery defines a central opening. The frame includes a channel extending outwardly of the inner periphery. The channel has a depth substantially equal to the thickness of the cover plate and the channel has an outer periphery substantially the same size as the cover plate. The frame is thus capable of surrounding the cover plate with the switch or receptacle being accessible through the central opening. An adhesive strip is affixed to the frame so that the frame may be adhered directly to the wall around the cover plate or to a back plate positioned between the cover plate and the wall. The back plate has an inner periphery smaller than the cover plate and an outer periphery larger than the cover plate.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Jackson Deerfield Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Reginald A. Baldwin, Gregg A. Ruecker

Patent number: 6097427Abstract: Automated packaging of surgical needle-suture assemblies includes a framing operation in which adjacent sheets of polymer coated aluminum foils are conveyed through a sequence of steps in an apparatus which produces frames containing plastic packets of needle-suture assemblies. A vision system having video cameras connected to a specially adapted computer enables monitoring the product traveling through the framing operation to detect various defects in the foil and in the product formation. Upon detection of a defect, the computer system can either identify and separate rejected product from good product or shut down the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Clifford A. Dey, Robert J. Cerwin, J. Mark Findlay, Konstantin K. Ivanov, Robert Nunez, Donald Pompei, William R. Reinhardt, Mehmet Reyhan, David A. Szabo

Patent number: 6022068Abstract: A lightweight body for a dump truck includes a floor with a pair of opposed spaced upwardly extending side walls coupled thereto. An upwardly extending front wall is included and coupled to the floor between the side walls to thereby create a space for carrying a payload and a rearward spillway for dumping the payload. The floor is formed of a plurality of adjacently positioned sections that are either separate pieces or form part of one continuous piece. The sections are arranged in an order of increasing thickness or hardness with the thickest or hardest section located at the spillway. This body structure substantially reduces weight while simultaneously preserving body strength, thereby allowing dump truck payload capability to be increased.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: John A. D'Amico

Patent number: 5887778Abstract: A method and apparatus is available for receiving surgical needle stock from a needle fabrication line and welding the surgical needle stock to a metal tape. The apparatus includes a welding station where the needle stock is welded to the tape. A tape indexing unit is arranged to move the metal tape through the welding station. A preload chuck is arranged to receive the surgical needle stock from the needle fabrication line and a gripper assembly is arranged to receive the surgical needle stock from the preload chuck and transfer the surgical needle stock from the preload chuck to the welding station.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1997Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Thomas D. Maurer, Michael J. Brown, deceased

Patent number: 5726953Abstract: An electroluminescent ("EL") lamp has EL material sandwiched between front and back conductive layers, which are disposed on a transparent substrate. The indiciae are formed from ink or other material deposited on the second surface of the front conductive layer, thereby completely burying the indicia within the EL lamp. The material may be transparent or colored, conductive or insulating, or made with an EL phosphor. The buried indicia provide sufficient contrast, when viewed with the EL lamp in an illuminated or non-illuminated state, to be seen. The present invention also describes a method for fabrication of such EL lamps.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1996Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Metro-Mark, IncorporatedInventors: Bradley J. LaPointe, David G. Sime

Patent number: 5228857Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for displaying masonry brick. The apparatus is constructed of a single sheet of clear, transparent plexiglass to which display bricks are securely mounted. Display bricks of various colors, styles and/or textures are removably affixed to the plexiglass sheet through the use of VELCRO.RTM. fastening strips or other similar fastening means. Alternatively, the display bricks can be permanently attached to the plexiglass sheet through the use of an appropriate adhesive material. The plexiglass sheet is folded back so as to provide elongated channels along two opposing sides thereof configured to selectively receive individual sheets of colored paper or cardboard to simulate various mortar colors. One or more cards with various preprinted patterns can also be used as a guide for precisely aligning the display bricks on the plexiglass sheet in particular masonry patterns.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1992Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Inventor: Rick Roland

Patent number: 4863020Abstract: A hanger device for the display of individual spark plug wires at the point of sale. The hanger device is formed of relatively thin, flat rectangular piece of resilient plastic sheet material, having a hole at its upper portion for engaging a hook or rod of conventional wire display racks. The hanger device also has a vertical slit extending down the middle of approximately two-thirds the length of said hanger device and terminating in a second hole at the bottom portion of the hanger device, the dimensions of the second hole corresponding to the outside diamter of the insulated electrical conductor of a spark plug wire. The portions of the hanger device opposite the slit are deformable to selectively present an opening of sufficient size to permit the insulating boot of a spark plug wire to be inserted therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1988Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Inventor: Jerry R.
