Abstract: A guide strip removal system includes a pair of guide strip removal devices positioned on opposite sides of a printer outlet where a continuous sheet of paper is discharged. The guide strip removal devices each include a pair of plate members secured together in a spaced apart parallel relationship to define a narrow slot therebetween. The plate members each have a corner portion delineated from a planar main body portion by respective narrow slits that extend from front edges of the plate members toward rear edges thereof. The corner portions are angled away from the main body portions to create paths for the side edge guide strips that diverge abruptly away from paths for the marginal side edge portions of the printer paper. The side edge guide strips are thereby removed from the marginal side edge portions of the, paper without the use of any moving parts or cutting blades.
Abstract: The invention provides processes for treating commercial grade preservatives to remove the off-flavor and/or off-odor from the preservatives. The processes involve preparing a solution by dissolving the preservative in a suitable solvent, such as water or methanol or mixtures thereof. The preservative solution is then passed through a filter to separate and remove organic acid impurities from the preservative. The undesirable tastes and odors, principally caused by the organic acid impurities, are retained in the filter while the preservative passes through the filter. In one embodiment, the filter is a bed of anion exchange resin that reacts with and removes the organic acid impurities. In another embodiment, the filter contains a metal cation that converts the organic acid impurities into insoluble salts which remain in the filter. The solvent can be removed by evaporation after the preservative solution is passed through the filter.

Various shapes and structures are disclosed that infuse diagnostic and therapeutic agents through a lumen of the polymer tubing, that deliver the agents in the form of a soluble coating, that circulate or contain a preloaded charge of radioactive material for intravascular radiotherapy, and that deploy filtration devices intravascularly for removing particulate matter from body fluid. The resilient fiber core and soft polymer material permit the construction of a very small apparatus that can be removed easily following treatment.
Abstract: An improved rotational molding apparatus and method are provided for rotational molding of plastic articles having differently colored sections. The method and apparatus use a rotational mold having first and second mold shells separated by a removable partition member to form first and second interior spaces within the mold. A thin blade is held against the inner surface of at least one of the mold shells to define a plurality of compartments within the respective interior spaces. Differently colored molding materials, preferably plastic powders, are introduced into each of the compartments and caused to melt against the inner surfaces of the mold shells. The surfaces of the blade and the partition member are kept at a lower temperature than the inner surfaces of the mold shells to prevent the molding materials from melting against the surfaces of the blade and the partition member.

Abstract: An improved furrow closing system and method are disclosed for agricultural seeders, particularly no-till seeders, that produce an open furrow in the soil into which seeds are placed. The closing system includes one or more spoked wheels rotatably mounted rearward of the seed furrow opener of the seeder. The vertical angle and lateral alignment at which the spoked wheel is mounted, together with the shape and length of the spokes themselves, provide a gentle closing of the furrow by slicing instead of squeezing or wedging, a shattering of the furrow sidewall and a pushing of the fragments into the furrow. The shattering of the furrow sidewall results in a more consistent furrow closure, a more rapid and uniform seed germination and seedling emergence, a higher percentage of emergence, and an improved seedling root growth. The spoked wheel has a plurality of spokes projecting radially from the hub of the wheel.
Abstract: A method of treating antimicrobial products, dairy products, pharmaceutical products and other products having offensive tastes or odors to remove the off-odors and off-tastes from the products. The method involves exposing a selected commercial grade product that contains a small amount of free acid impurities to an ammonia gas.
