Patent number: 6164100Abstract: A locking shaft extends from the end of the hoist shaft through the hole in the rear bumper of a vehicle. The front end of the locking shaft is tapered to fit within the end of the hoist shaft. A padlock fits within a hole in the locking shaft adjacent to the bumper. The padlock prevents unauthorized removal of the locking shaft from the hoist shaft. If the locking shaft and the hoist shaft are rotated, the padlock contacts a lip on the bumper and prevents further rotation of the locking shaft and the hoist shaft.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1995Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Adell CorporationInventor: Gerald R. Patent number: 6088837Abstract: A cap includes a visor having a fixed rear section attached to the crown and a fore section pivotally attached to the rear section. Functionally identical latches, made up of pairs of fingers and mating catches with prongs that engage the finger in a ratchet-and-pawl action, act to engage the pivotable section and hold it vertically up or down, depending on which prongs engage the fingers. An alternative embodiment employs an adjustable headband rather than a cap and crown.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Melrose CorporationInventor: Melvin L. Patent number: 6081743Abstract: A method for treating an individual includes selecting a reference site or sites for determining a brain wave frequency of the individual, determining an initial brain wave frequency of the individual, determining a brain wave frequency which corresponds to a highest evoked response of the individual, by use of electroencephalographic (EEG) feedback, entraining the brain wave frequency of the individual at the chosen site or sites to the brain wave frequency corresponding to the highest evoked response, and then maintaining the brain wave at that frequency for a first predetermined length of time. The highest evoked response can be the highest EEG response or the highest cerebral blood flow (CBF) of the individual or even some other measure. The CBF can be either for a selected portion of or the entire cerebrum. In one embodiment, the method includes repeating some steps. A preferred method entrains the individual back to approximately the initial brain wave frequency of the individual.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1996Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Inventors: John Leland Carter, Harold Laverne Russell, W. Patent number: 6070999Abstract: An elongated duct having a front opening and a rear opening is attached by duct mounting hardware inside the engine compartment of a vehicle. Headlamp mounting hardware attaches a headlamp to the rear opening of the duct, the headlamp being aimed to shine through the duct and out the front opening. The duct mounting hardware maintains the duct at a critical angle of inclination, so that the upper edge of the front opening is level with or below the lower edge of the rear opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1999Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Inventors: John Herbert Kamps, Sherwin W. Patent number: 6044232Abstract: An improved method of 3-D photography is described that allows real-time production of 3-D photographs of a subject (10) with correct depth perception. A camera (12) moves along a linear track (20) for a predetermined distance, simultaneously rotating to maintain orientation toward the subject (10) being photographed. A holder (14) retains a lenticular screen (20) and a recording medium at the focal point of the camera (12). The combination of rotation and translation of the camera (12) results in the formation of a continuous stream of images from different perspectives being formed on the recording medium (18) located behind the lenticular screen (20). The lenticular screen (20) refocuses the images onto the recording medium (26). In one embodiment, the holder (14) is rotated relative to the camera (12) during the scanning process through a predetermined angle.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Inventor: Shaugun Pan

Patent number: 5965100Abstract: A gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide is combusted in a furnace to form a gas having a hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide ratio of at least three to one. The gas is contacted with a conventional Claus catalyst to form elemental sulfur, which is separated and removed. The remaining gas is combined with an oxidizing gas stream and contacted with a special catalyst. The special catalyst has an active ingredient comprising a mixture of metal oxides or a mixed metal oxide, where metal is defined as at least two of the transition metals occurring in the first transition group of the periodic table. The special catalyst preferably has a spinel structure. As an option, a portion of the acid gas feed can be bypassed a point before the final reactor to ensure that the gas going to the final reactor promotes the desired catalytic action. The special catalyst oxidizes both COS and CS.sub.2 to CO.sub.2 and SO.sub.2, and converts H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 to elemental sulfur and water.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1996Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Inventor: Tofik K. Patent number: 5962991Abstract: A new and improved outdoor lighting control system for an outdoor lighting system network for automatically sensing, conveying, and recording data relevant to the operation of the lighting system network so that both control and maintenance can be performed more efficiently. At each of plural lamp locations in the network, there is a controller module that receives electric power input and that supplies electric power to the remaining lamp locations. Each controller module has a first relay to deliver current to one or more outdoor illumination lamps at the controller module's location, and a second relay for switching electric power on to a succeeding lamp location. A first current sensor monitors current to the lamps at each lamp location, and a second current sensor monitors current to the remaining locations. The network's power lines form portions of a bi-directional data link via which data is transmitted from each controller module to a command station, and vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Intelilite, L.L.C.Inventor: Josef Levy
