  • Patent number: 6004206
Abstract: The invention is a method for conducting an interactive lottery game. The game players select both an integer N and a rank R for that integer during a series of game playing intervals. The selections are entered into a computerized tallying database along with a unique personal identifier for each player. The database tabulates all player's selections and generates a most frequently selected rank R and an associated integer N for each playing interval. A game winner is determined by comparing every player's selection of integer N and rank R for each game interval with the most frequently selected rank R and associated integer N for each game interval. A prize is awarded to the winning player.

  • Patent number: 5988467
Abstract: The invention is an ankle holster for a handgun. The holster assembly wraps around the ankle of the wearer and has a fastener to fasten the ends together, such as buckles, snaps, clips, or hook and loop (Velcro) fastener tape. The holster assembly includes a plurality of eyelet apertures that are positioned adjacent the eyelet holes of the boot or shoe of the wearer. The holster assembly is held in position by interlacing the laces of the boot through the eyelet holes of the holster. This anchors the holster assembly in place and allows for a less constricting fit of the holster around the leg of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 5909831
Abstract: The invention is a manually operable device for applying foot coverings including socks, support hose and the like. The device is made of an elongated U-shaped member of flexible material with a horizontal bottom and generally vertical sides. The side portions are adapted to flex toward each other when inserting the toe end into a foot covering and have a concave area for receiving and reversibly maintaining a foot covering when it is inserted over the toe ends. A strap is connected to the U-shaped member at the heel end. The strap is then used to draw the U-shaped member up the foot and leg and out of the open end of the foot covering, thereby positioning the foot covering on the foot and leg of the user.

  • Patent number: 5875494
Abstract: The invention is a baseball-type cap with a closable opening that extends down the crown seam at the back of the cap. The opening is held closed by means of snaps attached to the overlapping portions of material at the seam edges, and is opened by separating the snaps. The opening extends from the top center of the cap to the rear vent, but does not intersect the adjustment strap opening. This maintains the ability of the cap to be adjusted to fit different head sizes. A wearer can open the closure, allowing a ponytail to extend through it with the cap in place on the wearer's head. The cap functions as normal with the opening snapped shut.

  • Patent number: 5868908
Abstract: A process for separating inorganic salts from a solution of dimethyl sulfoxide, water and salts including feeding the solution plus a hydrocarbon based oil to a vacuum thin film evaporator. The DMSO and water are vaporized and condensed outside the evaporator for reuse or further purification. The salt and oil exit the evaporator as a liquid phase slurry. Water is added to the slurry to dissolve the salt and produce an aqueous phase and an oil phase which are separated. The oil phase is recycled to the thin film evaporator portion of the process.

  • Patent number: 5836108
Abstract: A floating planter box comprises a polyhedral planar base member of a synthetic foam resin less dense than water. A pair of frame members sandwich the base member with one on the top and one on the bottom surface thereof. Side members surround the frames and base member and connect the frame members to hold the base member between the frames. The lower frame member has optional bracing members to strengthen that member. The planter displaces sufficient water to float the unit with the contained volume formed by the top surface and side members filled with soil and plants. An optional anchoring means hold the planter in place on a water surface.

  • Patent number: 5651897
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for wet oxidation treatment of high strength liquor or wastewater to destroy a substantial portion of the pollutants and produce an effluent stream containing a high solids content for recovery or disposal. The liquor is treated by wet oxidation and separate vapor and liquid streams are removed from the wet oxidation reactor. The vapor stream is cooled and separated to give a liquid condensate phase and a gaseous phase. The liquid stream from the reactor is cooled and divided, with a portion of the liquid effluent sent to recovery or disposal, and a portion combined with the condensate phase. This low pollutant content stream is used to dilute the raw feed liquor and maintain a high solids concentration in the liquid effluent stream.

  • Patent number: 5641413
Abstract: A process for treating wastewaters containing carbonaceous COD and at least one nitrogen-containing compound is disclosed comprising wet oxidizing the wastewater with an oxidizing agent at a temperature less than 373.degree. C. and a pressure sufficient to maintain a liquid water phase, to produce an oxidized wastewater containing a reduced concentration of COD. The nitrogen of the nitrogen-containing compound is substantially converted to ammonia, nitrate and nitrite. Sufficient inorganic nitrogen-containing compound is added to the oxidized wastewater to produce essentially equal concentrations of ammonia-nitrogen and nitrite-nitrogen plus nitrate-nitrogen. Mineral acid is added to the oxidized wastewater to produce a pH between 4 and 7, and optionally, a transition metal salt is added, to catalyze a thermal denitrification step. The wastewater is heated at temperatures between about 100.degree. C. and 300.degree. C. to decompose the nitrogen compounds, producing a purified wastewater.

  • Patent number: 5460732
Abstract: A process is described for monitoring pH in caustic liquor wet oxidation systems. An offgas carbon dioxide baseline value is established for the operating system where oxidized liquid effluent is at pH 7 or above. Offgas carbon dioxide content deviating by a selected proportion above the baseline vale indicates a drop in liquid effluent pH to 7 or less. Sufficient alkalinity is added to the raw wastewater to bring the effluent pH to 7 or above and prevent excessive corrosion to the materials of construction of the nickel-based or ferrous-based alloy wet oxidation system.

  • Patent number: 5389264
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and apparatus for dissipating the energy of a wet oxidation mixture after that stream traverses a pressure control valve. The depressurized stream is discharged into a phase separator vessel containing a gas phase and a liquid phase. The pressure control valve is positioned to discharge the oxidation mixture at a selected orientation below the surface level of the liquid phase in the vessel. This dissipates the energy of the mixture and prevents erosion of the phase separator vessel. The apparatus of the invention includes the separator vessel with gas and liquid phase exits, a control device for maintaining the liquid phase at the selected level in the vessel, a pressure control valve positioned at an aperture in the vessel for discharging the mixture below the surface level of the liquid phase in the vessel, and sealing device between the control valve and the separator vessel.
