Patent number: 6116354Abstract: A rotary steerable system for use in a drill string for drilling a deviated well is disclosed. The system utilizes a mechanical gravity reference device comprising an unbalanced weight which may rotate independently of the rotation of the drill string so that its heavy portion is always oriented toward the low side of the wellbore and which has an attached magnet. A magnetic switch that rotates as the drill string rotates is activated when its axis coincides with the axis of the magnet, and this activation results in a thrust member or pad being actuated to "kick" the side of the wellbore.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1999Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventor: Jean Buytaert

Patent number: 6087634Abstract: A browning grill is arranged for use in a high power density radiant oven. The oven includes a cooking enclosure having a ceiling and a floor, upper radiant energy sources located near the ceiling, and lower radiant energy sources located near the floor. The browning grill has a grilling surface and a debris collector. The grilling surface has a plurality of grill tines. The grilling surface is located between the upper and lower radiant energy sources, and the grilling surface establishes a cooking plane to the upper radiant energy sources. The debris collector catches food debris from food being grilled on the grilling surface. The debris collector is located between the grilling surface and the lower radiant energy sources, and the debris collector is arranged to permit heating of the cooking plane by the lower radiant energy sources.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1997Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Amana Company, L.P.Inventors: Edward R. Cook, J. Scott Petty

Variable orifice gas lift valve for high flow rates with detachable power source and method of using
Patent number: 6070608Abstract: The present invention is a surface controlled gas lift valve designed for high flow rates and used in a subterranean well, comprising: a valve for sealable insertion in a mandrel, having a variable orifice which alternately permits, prohibits, or throttles fluid flow into the valve, and a detachable and/or remote actuator are disclosed. Methods of actuating the valve include electro-hydraulic, hydraulic, and pneumo-hydraulic, while sensors relay the position of the variable orifice and critical fluid pressures to a panel on the surface. The orifice valve and the actuator while operatively connected, may be separately installed in or retrieved from by either wireline or coiled tubing intervention methods.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1997Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: Camco International Inc.Inventor: Ronald E. Patent number: 5990460Abstract: A method and apparatus for changing an automatic cooking program in an electric oven is disclosed. A parameter of the cooking program, such as cooking time, is automatically altered in response to a property of the electricity supplying the oven, such as line voltage. The method and apparatus are particularly well suited for use in ovens utilizing halogen tungsten lamps as sources of heat.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Amana Company, L.P.Inventors: Jonathan Scott Petty, Jennifer Lynn Tarplee

Patent number: 5972499Abstract: A process and materials made by the process which includes a bicomponent fiber, made of a nonconductive first component, including a first fiber-forming polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, nylon 6, nylon 6,6, cellulose, polypropylene cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile and copolymers of polyacrylonitrile; a conductive second component, including carbon particles and a second fiber-forming polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, nylon 6, nylon 6,6, cellulose, polypropylene cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile and copolymers of polyacrylonitrile; and a conductive third component, including a polymer selected from the group consisting of polypyrrole and polyaniline, said polymer formed in situ and being interspersed among at least a portion of the carbon particles of the second component.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Sterling Chemicals International, Inc.Inventors: Edgardo Rodriguez, John W. Patent number: 5960874Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively producing fluids from multiple lateral wellbores that extend from a central wellbore. The apparatus comprises a fluid flow assembly with a selectively openable and adjustable flow control valve in communication with a production tubing, located in the central wellbore between packers, and a lateral wellbore, and a selectively openable access door located adjacent the lateral wellbore allowing and preventing service tool entry into the lateral wellbore. The valve and door are individually controlled from the earth's surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1998Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Camco International Inc.Inventors: Arthur J. Morris, Ronald E. Pringle

Patent number: 5947206Abstract: An annulus vent valve is provided to vent gas or other production fluids from below a packer set within a well in deep-set applications. The valve may broadly include: a body member having a first end, a second end, an outer surface, a longitudinal bore adjacent the second end, and at least one flow port extending from the longitudinal bore to the outer surface; a closure member mounted within the longitudinal bore to control fluid flow therethrough; a mechanism for biasing the closure member to a normally closed position to prevent fluid flow through the longitudinal bore; a closure member actuator disposed for movement within the longitudinal bore to open and close the closure member; a mechanism for biasing the closure member actuator away from the closure member; a piston connected to the closure member actuator and having a first end and a second end; and a gas chamber disposed within the body member and in communication with the second end of the piston.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: September 7, 1999Assignee: Camco International Inc.Inventors: David E. McCalvin, Gregory B. Stephenson, Dwayne E. May
