Patent number: 7820499Abstract: In a method for manufacturing a nonvolatile memory device, an etch mask layer formed on a dielectric layer to define contact holes in the dielectric layer is slope-etched to form an etch mask pattern having an opening wider at the upper end thereof than the lower end thereof. Thus, the contact holes are defined in the dielectric layer to have a finer size than the upper end of the opening of the etch mask pattern. The method for manufacturing a nonvolatile memory device includes forming an etch mask pattern on a dielectric layer such that a width of a lower end of each opening defined in the etch mask pattern is less than a width of an upper end thereof; and defining contact holes by removing portions of the dielectric layer using the etch mask pattern.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2008Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Hynix Semiconductor Inc.Inventor: In No Lee

Patent number: 7820438Abstract: The present invention relates to primary cultured adipocytes for gene therapy, where the adipocytes stably maintain a foreign gene encoding a protein that is secreted outside of cells. This invention provides cells suitable for gene therapy, which can replace bone marrow cells and liver cells used for conventional ex vivo gene therapy. The present invention established methods for transferring foreign genes into primary cultured adipocytes, which are suitable for ex vivo gene therapy; can be easily collected and implanted; and can be removed after implantation. Specifically, the present invention established these methods that use retroviral vectors. The present invention also established primary cultured adipocytes for gene therapy, where the adipocytes stably maintain a foreign gene encoding a protein that is secreted outside of cells.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2003Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Eisai R&D Management Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masashi Ito, Yasushi Saito

Patent number: 7820052Abstract: A method for low-cost arsenic removal from drinking water using chemically prepared bottom ash pre-treated with ferrous sulfate and then sodium hydroxide. Deposits on the surface of particles of bottom ash form of activated iron adsorbent with a high affinity for arsenic. In laboratory tests, a miniscule 5 grams of pre-treated bottom ash was sufficient to remove the arsenic from 2 liters of 2400 ppb (parts per billion) arsenic-laden water to a level below 50 ppb (the present United States Environmental Protection Agency limit). By increasing the amount of pre-treated bottom ash, even lower levels of post-treatment arsenic are expected. It is further expected that this invention supplies a very low-cost solution to arsenic poisoning for large population segments.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2009Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventor: Ashok Gadgil

Patent number: 7821897Abstract: An information recording method using a read modify write operation includes determining whether a write command is inconsistent or not, on the basis of a unit of a cluster. When the write command onto the rewritable type optical disk needs verification and the read modify write operation is executed, then a verify process is conducted only upon a part of the information, which is written through the read modify write operation. The method achieves an increase in recording speed and an improvement on reliability of recorded information through the read modify write, even when the verify process is unnecessary.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2006Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc.Inventor: Atsushi Fuchiwaki

Patent number: 7823214Abstract: Improved techniques to control utilization of accessory devices with electronic devices are disclosed. The improved techniques can use cryptographic approaches to authenticate electronic devices, namely, electronic devices that interconnect and communicate with one another. One aspect pertains to techniques for authenticating an electronic device, such as an accessory device. Another aspect pertains to provisioning software features (e.g., functions) by or for an electronic device (e.g., a host device). Different electronic devices can, for example, be provisioned differently depending on different degrees or levels of authentication, or depending on manufacturer or product basis. Still another aspect pertains to using an accessory (or adapter) to convert a peripheral device (e.g., USB device) into a host device (e.g., USB host). The improved techniques are particularly well suited for electronic devices, such as media devices, that can receive accessory devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2005Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Jake Rubinstein, Anthony M. Patent number: 7821739Abstract: A metal foil disk offers some of the best characteristics of both the hard disk and floppy disk for digital data storage. One embodiment uses an opposed slider air bearing arrangement that provides advantages when used with a high speed metal foil disk in either a fixed or removable format. Use is made of the fact that the opposing sliders interact through their influence on the flexible disk that is sandwiched between them. Asymmetry of opposing air bearings may be created by etching the air bearing pad opposite the recording element pad to a depth sufficient that the flying height and air film stiffness of the opposing pad reach desired levels. The result is an air bearing interface with low flying height and high stiffness over the recording element opposed by a high flying height and low stiffness on the other side of the disk. This air bearing interface provides an enhanced dynamic flexibility to the metal foil disk when it is subjected to mechanical shock.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2007Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Antek Peripherals, Inc.Inventor: James White

Patent number: 7822614Abstract: A language analyzer performs speech recognition on a speech input by a speech input unit, specifies a possible word which is represented by the speech, and the score thereof, and supplies word data representing them to an agent processing unit. The agent processing unit stores process item data which defines a data acquisition process to acquire word data or the like, a discrimination process, and an input/output process, and wires or data defining transition from one process to another and giving a weighting factor to the transition, and executes a flow represented generally by the process item data and the wires to thereby control devices belonging to an input/output target device group. To which process in the flow the transition takes place is determined by the weighting factor of each wire, which is determined by the connection relationship between a point where the process has proceeded and the wire, and the score of word data.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2004Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Kabushikikaisha KenwoodInventor: Rika Koyama

Patent number: RE41898Abstract: A halide salt of a 1-(hydroxyiminomethyl-1-pyridino)-3-(halomethyl)-2-oxapropane is prepared by adding a pyridinealdoxime to a bis-halomethylether in such a manner that the bis-halomethylether is maintained in excess throughout the addition. This procedure produces the halide salt of a 1-(hydroxyiminomethyl-1-pyridino)-3-(halomethyl)-2-oxapropanein high yield and purity, which facilitates its use as an intermediate in the manufacture of an asymmetrically substituted 1,3-di(1-pyridino)-2-oxapropane, a class of compounds that are generally useful antidotes to various toxic agents. A prominent member of the class is the dimethylsulfonate salt of 1-(2-hydroxyiminomethyl-1-pyridino)-3-(4-carbamoyl-1-pyridino)-2-oxapropane. The use of mercaptoalkyl-functionalized polymers is disclosed as a preferred metal ion scavenger for a final purification step in the manufacture of these compounds.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2008Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Aerojet Fine Chemicals LLCInventors: Der-Shing Huang, George R.
