Abstract: Blood is supplied continuously from a blood collecting vessel to a stirrer through a pump located at the bottom of the vessel. Vapor in the form of heated live steam is sprayed against the blood in the stirrer to coagulate a protein in the serum. The blood containing the coagulated protein and water, and other substances are dehydrated to form a solid product containing water. This product is divided into fine particles, and these particles are dried to form blood powder having a water content of about 15%.
Abstract: A flange alignment tool comprises a body portion having a first, relatively flat surface disposed for abutting engagement with a rear surface of a pipe flange and a second, curvilinear surface adjacent the first surface and shaped for complementary engagement with a curvilinear neck portion of the pipe flange adjacent the rear surface thereof. First and second spaced apart aligning pins extend through the body portion and include projecting flange-engaging pin ends positioned for alignment with an adjacent pair of through apertures in the flange. Resilient springs urge the aligning pins in a predetermined direction for encouraging positive engagement of the flange-engaging pin ends with the through apertures.

In the device, a torsion spring is provided between a cylindrical receptacle and an operating member rotatably mounted thereon. The rod member, which is inserted in the receptacle, is normally locked against movement by the torsion spring. The rod can be released from the locked state for movement in an extending or contracting direction by releasing the clamping force of the spring by turning the operating member.
Abstract: An optical system is provided for viewing a sterilization indicator including a receptacle, the receptacle having a translucent portion and being carried interiorally of an incubator. The optical system comprises a light source, and first light transmission structure located intermediate the light source and the receptacle for redirecting light from the light source through the translucent portion of the receptacle. A viewing window is located in an external surface of said incubator; and second light transmission structure is located on a side of the receptacle generally opposite the first light transmission means for redirecting light transmitted through the translucent portion of said receptacle to the viewing window.

Abstract: A locking device is disclosed, which is locked when a spike secured to the back surface of a door is pushed once and is released when the spike is pushed once again. The locking device comprises a case open at one end and having a wall provided with a spring portion having an end projection, a lock member slidably accommodated in the case for movement away from and toward the open end and having a pair of locking pawls, a spring for urging the lock member toward the open end of the case at all times, and a cam member provided between the lock member and an end wall of the case and having a lateral ridge formed on one surface and received in a lateral groove of the lock member, the cam member being provided on the other surface with a uni-directional looped path, the projection of the case being slidably engaged in the path. When the lock member is pushed, the projection of the base is caused to trace the looped path to bring about a locked state and an unlocked state.
Abstract: A rinsing apparatus is provided for a contact lens cleaning system. This rinsing apparatus comprises a container for receiving a quantity of rinsing fluid, receptacles for receiving contact lenses and an agitator mounted in the container for a compound agitating motion and coupled to the receptacles for agitating the receptacles. A base unit includes a platform for mounting the container in a stationary position and a drive assembly for driving the agitator to achieve the desired compound agitating motion. Advantageously, this drive assembly is operatively coupled with the agitator only by a magnetic coupling arrangement, obviating the need for any mechanical connection or coupling therebetween, or for extending any rotating members through the container.
